View moreSummary: The Impact of University of the People
University of the People (UoPeople) served as the vital bridge between my ambition and my reality. When traditional education systems—burdened by seat limits, rigid exam-focused curriculums, and escalating costs—threatened to permanently halt my academic journey, UoPeople offered an accessible, accredited path forward. Without their generous scholarships, acceptance of my prior independent learning credits, and flexible online model, systemic financial and social barriers would have entirely derailed my dream of studying Computer Science. Instead, UoPeople empowered me to bypass these legacy obstacles, transforming me into a capable Cybersecurity Analyst and Software Developer equipped to build secure networks and innovative applications for the global community.
Redefining Access: How UoPeople Empowered My Journey in Tech
Growing up in a densely populated city, access to quality higher education was a profound challenge. The traditional legacy education system often felt like an insurmountable barrier—a rigid, highly competitive structure that prioritized rote memorization and exam scores over genuine knowledge distribution and practical skill development. The scarcity of university seats and the overwhelming pressure of the system created a confusing environment that threatened to stifle my ambitions and my hunger for knowledge.
However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, I refused to let my education pause. Armed with a computer and an internet connection, I turned to independent learning. I discovered the immense value of flexible, high-quality digital study libraries, successfully completing rigorous professional certification programs from industry leaders like Google and IBM. Through this continuing education, I earned substantial ACE and ECTS credit hours in Computer Science and Business Administration.
Despite these early successes, escalating financial, social, and political challenges made continuing my higher studies through legacy institutions nearly impossible. Just as these obstacles threatened to permanently halt my progress, I found University of the People. UoPeople did not just accept me for a foundation term; they welcomed me with scholarships and allowed me to seamlessly transfer the course credits I had worked so hard to earn independently. It was a beacon of hope.
Starting my academic journey at UoPeople in 2023 was the realization of a lifelong dream to pursue Computer Science. I suddenly found myself learning alongside a global powerhouse of talented peers, completely free from geographical, financial, or societal constraints. UoPeople is a truly revolutionary educational platform. It has empowered students worldwide, equipping them not just with degrees, but with the real-world skills necessary to thrive at top-tier organizations like IBM, Amazon, and the United Nations, or to pursue further education at prestigious institutions like NYU, Edinburgh, and McGill University.
Earning a WASC-accredited U.S. degree from my home in Bangladesh has given me unparalleled confidence. It has transformed me into a capable Cybersecurity Analyst and Software Developer, pushing me to think beyond traditional boundaries. Today, I am equipped to work with AI, IoT integrations, robotics, and cross-platform frameworks like Flutter to solve pressing real-world problems.
By the time I graduate with my Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in July 2026, I will have transformed my resilience into tangible expertise. I am now actively developing and publishing useful applications and securing modern network architectures. I pursued this path to build modern software using the latest frameworks. My ultimate goal is to create technological solutions that not only advance my own country but also serve the broader global community.
To my program advisor, and my dedicated instructors, including Dr. Erin Egnatz, Dr. Zalak Shah and Dr. Pallavi Khanna: thank you for your unwavering support. You have consistently pushed me to exceed my own expectations, challenged me to think critically, and taught me that true learning is a lifelong commitment. University of the People is a changemaker, and because of it, I am ready to be one, too.
