University of Guelph (reviews)

The University of Guelph offers a welcoming campus environment, strong academic programs, and plenty of opportunities for students to get involved. The university has a friendly community, supportive faculty, and a good balance between academics and student life. Overall, it’s a great place to learn, grow, and build lasting connections.

In the bioinformatics graduate program (M.Binf), there are caring professors that are passionate or are very well versed about the course material (i.e genomic methods for bioinformatics, BINF*6110). There are many insightful and interesting summer research projects for students to undertake in the BINF 6999 summer research course ranging from microbiology, ecology, animal sciences, and human health sciences. Notably, the University of Guelph is one of the leading universities in ecology and animal sciences/veterinary research. The campus has many quiet places to study such as the McLaughlin library, the Summerlee Science Complex, or the University Centre. The Lookout, located on the 5th floor of the University centre, often sells cheap $1 coffee to students and is an excellent place to socialize with friends. Transportation is highly accessible at the University, with your student card acting as the fare to the local Guelph transit while both GO buses and Guelph buses directly drop you off in front of or near the university centre.

University of Guelph is one of the best universities I’ve experienced throughout undergrad. The professors are welcoming, faculty is patient, and its easy to make friends here that make you feel comfortable.

There seemed to be a sense of community for still being a large school. Some would say that was not as obvious but if you search out new groups and put yourself out there, you would be surprised how many different people you could meet.
