The University of Guelph’s bachelor of science program offers many different fields of study to choose from. The program I chose to study was human kinetics, which was filled with many interesting and exciting experiences. Each class was filled with intellectually stimulating topics delivered by professors from within the field of study. Although studies make up a massive portion of the university experience student life plays a big role as well. Student life at the University of Guelph is incredible especially since Guelph is ranked at the top for their food! there are so many clubs and social events to attend on campus with an even better city life to rave about. This school is world-renowned for the agricultural studies and research that occurs on campus.
Well, university without a doubt can be difficult. It is a big jump from high school in terms of workload. I struggled at first to adjust because the setting was so new and not as diverse as I was used to being that I am a person of colour. However, as the herd went by I was able to find my footing. I was able to do so because I started becoming more passionate about my program.
Some professors are perfect. They explain the content in a way that students understand. The residences are so comfortable. the classes are so big which is perfect specially during Covid-19 situation. There are different programs for international students which is wonderful. the foods are also delicious and healthy. There are different types of food for students with different diets.
The part that I liked about this program was the interactiveness in some of my classes. Like participating in a class-wide survey, and anonymously hearing other students’ answers. It gave an interactive element even during covid to get to know other people and to learn more about social factors in people’s lives. The classes are broad and there is a large range of topics that can be studied within this program which gives me a chance to widen my horizon in my studies. Within the school in general there weren’t a lot of opportunities for meeting people outside of a residence in the first year during covid. I feel that if they did more activities that appeal to more types of people I feel that it could’ve helped more people meet each other. I wouldn’t say that the school is international, compared to others it is mostly people from smaller towns in Ontario, and not very many from other countries or other cities in Canada. In terms of my career prospects I feel that Guelph is giving good education for the program, and with a certificate in business that was very easy to add to my major.
This school offers an amazing campus filled with some of the best food services I’ve ever experienced. The science buildings are extremely new and state-of-the-art, making learning here all the more enjoyable. The program also offers a diverse course catalogue with many classes to choose from in order to meet each student’s specific needs, and gear you towards your desired career path. Most professors are eager to assist you when they can, and the work-life balance is extremely beneficial to social students. Classes use a lot of group work which can be both detrimental and beneficial in some cases and has allowed me to meet some lifelong friends. The student population is not diverse at all, however, everybody is genuinely kind and eager to assist you with any needs you may have. Overall, attending this school was the best decision I ever made and has allowed me to flourish over the past four years, and the Molecular Biology and Genetics program in particular has adequately prepared me for the next steps in my academic career.
Having most of my university experience online due to the COVID-19 pandemic was a huge challenge. It was a barrier to in-depth learning and enjoyment of the content. With this said, some professors really stood out in making learning as interactive and enjoyable as possible. Even when the content was interesting, it was difficult to stay on track when there was no guidance from professors, and everything was for students to do on their own.
I attended The University of Guelph for 5 years to pursue an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Neuroscience. It was the best experience not only for my academic career, but for my personal and professional growth. The support of the campus community, professors, and the multiple opportunities to get involved on campus made it feel like my home away from home!
I graduated from LSE's School of Economics and then started my one-year postgraduate study at Cambridge University Cambridge is close to London but it is a totally different town I walk to school or by bike because when you leave a big city like London you should enjoy the environment [...]
