Review of University of Guelph, Canada:
I am currently in my second semester studying for a Master of Engineering in Computer Engineering at the University of Guelph. I am enrolled in the thesis-based program. Thus far, my experience at this university has been highly satisfactory.
First and foremost, the university boasts a team of dedicated and responsive staff members. Whenever I have encountered an issue and reached out via email, they have promptly addressed my concerns. This level of attentiveness has significantly boosted my confidence, knowing that my queries are being taken seriously. Moreover, the university ensures timely and reliable payments, which is greatly appreciated.
Additionally, the university organizes a wide range of events aimed at fostering social connections, promoting a healthy lifestyle, and supporting mental well-being. These initiatives have allowed me, as an international student, to forge meaningful friendships and integrate into the community.
Furthermore, the university offers various cost-saving programs. For instance, they provide a loyalty program where after purchasing items such as coffee or food from the university center ten times, the eleventh purchase is complimentary. Moreover, initiatives like the food bank, food4u, and food market offer high-quality groceries at reduced prices, easing financial burdens for students.
Most importantly, the quality of education and the dedication of instructors are truly commendable. The courses are well-structured, with engaging materials, and the instructors exhibit a genuine passion for teaching and learning from their students.
In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend the University of Guelph to those seeking a vibrant and enriching learning environment.
View moreI’m currently in my second year at the University of Guelph and I can honestly say it’s been the greatest two years of my life. The community here at guelph is supportive, welcoming and some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met. Before coming to uofg I took a year off working and during this time I went to many different universities across Ontario to visit friends and get a feel of the schools. Some of the places I visited were Western, Laurier, TMU, McMaster and of course Guelph. Out of all these schools, I found Guelph to have not only the friendliest Staff/workers, but students. Everyone I have met here has been so welcoming and supportive no matter where no are. I’ve also been having great experiences in my academic career here. While I have had the odd “not the best” prof here and there, the majority of my classes I’ve seriously enjoyed and gained so much knowledge. Some of the professor that teach here have seriously changed my life with their passion, education, and kindness. There is also a huge amount of opportunities on campus not only academically but in clubs, sports, jobs and more. My only concern with UofG is as someone in the arts program, our department often gets overlooked in these opportunities. The business and science program here on guelph offer such great external experiences and ways to get involved and connected both on and off campus but I’ve found quite a lack in this department for my program. Finally the food here at UofG really is as good as everyone says. First year I probably eat a crepe almost everyday (do not recommend your meal plan will be empty before you know it). From the food I’ve had at other universities, nothing tops Guelphs. As someone who doens’t eat read meat either there is a lot of vegan and gluten free options! Guelph gives a warm, homey and community feel and has been such a great experience for me. If you’re thinking about coming to guelph I highly recommend! Beautiful campus and people!
View moreI found that the University of Guelph is excellent for exploring new opportunities and building your resume. Numerous professors in science are incredibly welcoming and would love to have you volunteer in their lab with potential to join the lab through research/lab courses and summer employment opportunities. All it took was an email for me to delve into environmental/agriculture-related lab and field experiences. Many of my courses in environmental science took me outside into the field to gain hands on experience in identifying plants, collecting soil samples and more. I also completed a field biology class that took place in Central America. That particular course was made possible for me with the assistance of a travel grant. Outside of class, I joined many clubs such as TEDxGuelphU, the Artistic Swimming team, and the Red Cross Support Group that helped me learn event planning skills as well as opening my eyes to engaging with the community while being a part of a team. Overall, the people at Guelph really made my experience on campus worth it as everyone is so friendly and helpful. The opportunities are endless, and I found out about so many of them through the friends I made on campus. In terms of difficulties I had on campus, there were some professors who were more difficult than others. Before signing up for courses each semester, I made sure to ask multiple people in my program about each course. Understanding how other students responded to a professor’s teaching and grading methods was critical in my course selection process as I wanted to ensure not all my courses were incredibly difficult. I avoided a professor completely after I had heard about his harsh attitude towards students and his alleged homophobic remarks. Overall, I highly recommend the University of Guelph and recommend that everyone really make their time there worthwhile!
View moreUniversity of Guelph is a great school with a wonderful engineering program. The university’s engineering building is especially lovely as it is a nice and open place to study. However, its capacity is very limited. If the university were able to open more study spaces such as an engineering building atrium and the study rooms around there, it would really benefit the students.
