I found that the University of Guelph is excellent for exploring new opportunities and building your resume. Numerous professors in science are incredibly welcoming and would love to have you volunteer in their lab with potential to join the lab through research/lab courses and summer employment opportunities. All it took was an email for me to delve into environmental/agriculture-related lab and field experiences. Many of my courses in environmental science took me outside into the field to gain hands on experience in identifying plants, collecting soil samples and more. I also completed a field biology class that took place in Central America. That particular course was made possible for me with the assistance of a travel grant. Outside of class, I joined many clubs such as TEDxGuelphU, the Artistic Swimming team, and the Red Cross Support Group that helped me learn event planning skills as well as opening my eyes to engaging with the community while being a part of a team. Overall, the people at Guelph really made my experience on campus worth it as everyone is so friendly and helpful. The opportunities are endless, and I found out about so many of them through the friends I made on campus. In terms of difficulties I had on campus, there were some professors who were more difficult than others. Before signing up for courses each semester, I made sure to ask multiple people in my program about each course. Understanding how other students responded to a professor’s teaching and grading methods was critical in my course selection process as I wanted to ensure not all my courses were incredibly difficult. I avoided a professor completely after I had heard about his harsh attitude towards students and his alleged homophobic remarks. Overall, I highly recommend the University of Guelph and recommend that everyone really make their time there worthwhile!
View moreThe University of Guelph stands out for its excellent food selection and a dedicated faculty, with most professors and teaching assistants demonstrating commendable support. However, I’ve noticed occasional inconsistencies in grading. Class space constraints may pose challenges for students who need/are interested in taking specific classes. The campus is pleasant and pretty, in particular, the arboretum. Most lecture halls are nice as well, and there’s lots of good study spaces. The gym has a very wide selection of machines and is nice when empty, but is typically very busy and waiting is often required to use most training machines.
View moreThe University of Guelph was an amazing school to dedicate four years as a student. The environment was welcoming, and everything was easily accessible. I loved my time as a Biomedical Sciences student as there were incorporated classes that would become beneficial to me in either professional schools or as a future grad student.
However, there were some downfalls to the university. I do wish that there were more practical/ hands-on experiences the university could provide students in my specific program, as this would have better prepared me for jobs after graduating.
I liked that campus was separated from the rest of the city which enhanced the feeling of community. There were a wide variety of elective courses to choose from which kept me intrigued to learn more about a variety of subjects.
View moreThe University of Guelph provides many excellent academic resources to its students including updated learning curriculums, academic and personal counseling, and collaboration opportunities with student internships and co-ops. During my experience with the University of Guelph, I was encouraged to get out of my comfort zone to become more proactive and involved with extracurricular activities. The community surrounding the university is inclusive and welcoming, which allowed students to smoothly transition from their secondary schools into the post-secondary institution.
View moreThe Molecular Biology and Genetics program at Guelph University is highly interesting and allows the opportunity to specialize in the cell aspects of molecular biology or mendelian genetics. The courses are extremely diverse and interesting, and there is an option to complete a senior research project while working for a professor.
View moreUniversity of Guelph overall was a great experience for me, I find their science department is vastly developing with various areas you can specialize in. Great environment and professors with academic support that was provided. I think one area I kind of wish is more hands on, more implementation of labs and stimulation.
View moreGuelph has an amazing hands on approach to learning. I really enjoyed the labs, and the research projects. There was always lots of help where needed. I spent lots of time on the campus and in the library studying, I found it was a great area to focus and a very inviting environment.
View moreI felt the program and school were very biased. It was very much so it their way or you’re no good. Do what they are guiding you to do or you’re a failure. It was pretty harsh and there wasn’t any room for people to find themselves or expand their being. It was very much a factory line no room for creativity
View moreThe program trains students very well to become independent learners. It prepares and shapes you to be a professional with opportunities for experiential learning and collaboration with other departments.
