How did students rate their universities in 2024? Find out in our ranking of the top 10 universities in Europe and the UK, as decided by students!
This marks the first year that EDUopinions has included an overall ranking of the top 10 universities decided by reviewers as part of our Student Reviews Guide. We previously published a preliminary version of this ranking in August 2024.
Our list offers an alternative perspective to other university rankings, which are largely based on complex methodologies that rarely include a student view (or review!)
Instead, our ranking is decided entirely on the basis of student reviews posted to EDUopinions, giving real students a say in which universities deserve to be considered ‘top-ranked’.
So, read on to find out about the top 10 universities in Europe and the UK, as decided by students.

The top 10 Universities of 2024: As rated by EDuopinions student reviewers

Summary and Methodology
To create a ranking of the top 10 universities in Europe, we analysed data from EDUopinions reviews posted between January 1st 2024 and December 31st 2024. Then, we filtered by country of university, selecting only countries in Europe with at least 10 reviews. This gave us a total of 3,918 reviews to analyse.
Next, we included only those universities with more than 20 reviews to improve the accuracy of ratings. We also removed business schools from the list; these institutions typically have smaller student populations and offer only business and management degrees.
The resulting ratings are from students and graduates of each university, from Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, and vary across in-person and online courses, to give us a wide variety of student views and experiences.
10. University of Limerick – UL, Ireland (4.31/5 Overall Rating)

The University of Limerick (UL) could win awards for its beautiful riverside campus, which is just a few miles away from the city of Limerick. UL has over 18,000 students, a triple-accredited business school, and hosts Ireland’s largest Erasmus programme, which connects students with universities around Europe. It’s also known for its groundbreaking ‘co-op’ degrees, which allow students to work while they study, and extensive sports facilities.
EDUopinions student reviewers also love the University of Limerick. As well as recieving a high overall rating, the university gains the third-highest score on this ranking for the quality of professors. Students also love its value for money–the cost of living in Limerick is about 15% cheaper than Dublin, and you have access to the wild Atlantic coast.
Student Review
The University of Limerick provides a truly immersive student experience, blending academics with a vibrant campus life. One of its standout features is the stunning campus along the River Shannon, offering excellent sports facilities like UL Sport Arena and serene study spaces in the Glucksman Library. The faculty are highly knowledgeable and approachable, especially in programs like Engineering, Business, and Health Sciences, where practical learning is prioritized. The cooperative education (Co-op) program is a major highlight, offering invaluable work experience, which boosts employability. On the downside, the accommodation options can be costly, and some lecture halls need modern upgrades. Socially, UL thrives with a diverse student body and clubs to cater to all interests. I’d recommend UL
Student Review
The University of Limerick is a stunning campus by the River Shannon, where students feel welcomed and supported. With great hands-on learning opportunities and a lively atmosphere, it’s easy to make lasting memories while studying here.
Student Review
One of the things I appreciate most about UL is its designation as an independent, technologically-focused university. Unlike traditional universities confined to city centers, UL has ample space for expansion and innovation on its sprawling greenfield campus. This unique setup allows for cutting-edge facilities like the LERO research center, the Medical Device Testing and Certification Laboratory, and the Bernal Project – all dedicated to pushing boundaries in fields like engineering, science and healthcare. As a student, I’ve had access to resources on par with any internationally-renowned university.
9. Erasmus University Rotterdam – EUR, Netherlands (4.31/5 Overall Rating)

Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) is a hub of innovation and academic excellence in the Netherlands. It offers programs across STEm subjects and social sciences, including business, economics, law, and healthcare. Known for its international focus, students at EUR gain a global perspective on each subject, helped by the school’s multicultural student community. There are 9,000 international students at EUR, and the school earned a spot on our recent ranking of the best universities for international students in Europe.
No surprise, then, that student reviewers give EUR a particularly high rating for the internationality of their study experience. However, it gets lower than average scores for student life and location compared to other universities on this list.
Student Review
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of my experience, from the exceptional lecturers to the facilities and the amazing community of students. Erasmus University Rotterdam offers a uniquely supportive and inclusive environment that fosters learning and growth for both local and international students. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking an enriching and rewarding educational experience.
Student Review
What I really like about this uni is that there is a campus. This is different from other universities in the Netherlands where different faculties are located at other places. It gives a feeling of connecting with others easily. I think we have nice buildings and a good education system. What can be improved is providing more information sometimes. When choosing courses for instance, there is lack of a good explanation of what the course is about.
Student Review
In my opinion, it is a great university offering lots of interesting study programs. Usually, they are of great help when you ask for it. However, I feel like in some aspects this is a bit lacking sometimes. The campus is nice although some buildings are a bit old (e.g the G-building). However, they’re continuously trying to improve campus the campus and classes so i feel like they’re doing good in that aspect. All in all, if you’re looking for a nice university in the netherlands, i believe erasmus is a great option
8. Keele University – KLE, UK (4.32/5 overall Rating)

Tucked away in the English countryside, Keele University offers a close-knit community for its approximately 13,500 students. The university offers interdisciplinary courses in areas like health sciences, social sciences and environmental studies and its status as a great place for studies is cemented by its similar top rankings among the best universities in the UK.
Keele is the second university on our overall ranking that also appeared in our list of the best universities rated by internationals students. Students rate it highly for internationality, but give similarly high ratings for the quality of professors and career prospects – helped by Keele’s proximity to Manchester and Birmingham.
Student Review
Keele is ideal for those seeking a quieter, academically focused environment but might not suit students looking for a vibrant, urban university experience.
While the university provides strong academic support and a range of courses, certain facilities, such as accommodation and campus amenities, don’t always worth the money.
Student Review
Keele is an excellent choice for college, thanks to its fantastic weather, stellar academics, and a wealth of resources to help students thrive. Some areas can be a bit competitive, but overall, I’m loving my time here at Keele University!
Student Review
Keele University offers an outstanding undergraduate experience with its renowned professors, favorable climate, beautiful libraries, and ample academic resources. The university fosters a lively atmosphere of activism, diversity, and knowledge—values that are greatly appreciated. Students have the opportunity to broaden their horizons beyond their own backgrounds, enriching their education by engaging with various viewpoints.

As an Erasmus student at Aalborg University, my time here has been nothing short of amazing. The university’s commitment to an inclusive and welcoming environment for international students made my transition seamless. The Erasmus program at Aalborg University goes beyond academics, emphasizing cultural integration and mutual understanding. The support from the International Office, faculty, and fellow students made me feel at home in a new country. The courses offered under the Erasmus exchange are well-structured, providing a perfect balance between academic rigor and cultural exploration. Aalborg’s vibrant city life, combined with the warmth of its people, has made this experience unforgettable. I am grateful for the lifelong friendships formed and the valuable insights gained during my Erasmus journey at Aalborg University.
Student Review
I really like it here. There are so many chances on and off campus by chances i mean for work. There are so many places to get involved. There really isn’t anything I don’t like about Denmark. I would definitely endorse the idea of coming here
Student Review
Aalborg University’s commitment to an inclusive learning environment sets it apart. As an international student, I’ve felt welcomed and supported throughout my journey. The faculty’s approachability and the university’s focus on student well-being have made my academic experience here truly enriching. The diverse student body allows for a variety of perspectives in class discussions, contributing to a holistic understanding of the subjects. The university receives above-average ratings across the board, though it’s let down by a lower rating for accommodation – a trend we’ve seen across European universities.
Student Review
I chose Jagiellonian University for its rich history, academic excellence, and affordability. The Medicine program is rigorous, but the professors are always willing to help. The university’s location in Krakow provides a unique cultural experience. I’m grateful for the chance to study alongside talented students from diverse backgrounds.

Keep immersing yourself in the local culture and traditions while you continue to have an amazing experience at Jagiellonian University.
Student Review
The relationships I’ve made with my professors has opened my eye and makes me believe that I will be very successful once I have completed my studies. They have shown me different ways I can utilise my knowledge to get employment. I am really grateful that they professors are not stuck up or proud. They are approachable and always commend productive efforts.

Fancy studying in beautiful Spain? The Universitat de Girona is the only Spanish university on this ranking, and is located in the stunning Catalonia region. There are approximately 15,000 students at the university, studying subjects as varied as tourism and criminology. It ranks among the top 30 universities in Spain, and EDUopinions student reviewers consider it an equally outstanding institution.

There’s always something going on, with various events to choose from. The university supports student-organized events and has a modern, well-maintained campus.
4. Bocconi University, Italy (4.43/5 Overall Rating)

Bocconi University in Milan is a global leader in economics, business, and finance education. It’s home to a top graduate business department – SDA Bocconi School of Management – and attracts students from more than 90 countries. The university’s campus is in downtown Milan, so students can take advantage of all the entertainment and cultural sights offered in this cosmopolitan city (EDUopinions reviewers rank Milan as one of the best student cities in Europe).
Outside of student life, reviewers believe there are strong career prospects with a degree from Bocconi University – understandable given the range of industries present in Milan. The university also scores highly for value for money and the quality of professors.
Student Review
The 2 years of my Master of Science program have been the experience I sought after my Bachelor’s in India. Bocconi emphasized theoretical and practical ways of learning, which involved collaboration among my course peers and those in other universities and organizations. I feel more prepared to enter the workforce having realised the areas of my interest and following the pursuit of skills that will enhance my career trajectory.
Student Review
I love the quality of education I received at Bocconi. Having previously studied Management back in Turkey, coming here to do my masters in Marketing Management allowed me to get much more specialisation regarding my field. I got to know more about the data side of marketing, which brought me a whole other perspective. The school itself has many opportunities to make your university life the best possible experience. I enjoyed the seminars held, the extracurricular activities carried out, the opportunities to join an association, and have also been staying in one of the residences of Bocconi, which has made my life so much easier. Overall, I can say that both in terms of the education I got and the campus life Bocconi provided me, I am very satisfied with everything.
Student Review
I find my classes and many professors enjoyable. I believe they present a good challenge but are not impossible. The majority of professors are open to collaborating with students. I do not think I would want to change anything about this school if given a chance. Bocconi University is quite diverse as well. As an international student, I feel very welcomed, with several professors and classmates addressing me by my first name. This goes on to prove that it’s easy to find new friends while getting your degree here at Bocconi university.
3. KdG University of Applied Sciences and Arts – KdG, Belgium (4.51/5 Overall rAting)

KdG University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Antwerp focuses on teaching creativity alongside practical skills across subjects such as business, health, design and technology. The hands-on approach resonates with students, and it ranks as the third-best university in Europe.
Almost 15,000 students are enrolled at KdG, from 133 nationalities, contributing to the institution’s global perspective and creating a welcoming community for new students. In fact, student reviewers give KdG the highest scores on this ranking for internationality and career prospects, two factors that are essential to the student experience. With cutting-edge facilities and industry links, KdG offers fantastic student life and preparation for the graduate world afterwards.
Student Review
As a second year student at KdG I can say with confidence what I like about this university.
The International programs are well-arranged for the newcomers in Belgium.
Teachers are of a high level. With a lot of background in their industry.
Student Review
The university program is carefully structured , and updated . The timetable is quite challenging and it requires effort , active learning skills and organization , the teachers are prepared and available for confrontation and discussion. The material provided is complete and exhaustive, the platform provided to follow the courses is clear and provides a relatable infrastructure. The group projects provides a powerful tool to interact with classmate and develop soft skills. The campuses have lots of supplies and are well organized. My final review is positive but the information provided in courses are at times overwhelming, the only way to pass is put a lot of work in the project and attend classes.
Student Review
Overall I would give it a solid 8/10. If you want to learn practical skills for computer science, media or business in English then it’s one of the best in Belgium. What I truly like is that we learn the most through project work or applying what we have learnt to prep up for the day to day work and also have internships etc. I also like that each class builds up on the previous ones. I do not like how we were told that this was an AI course for the ACS but only started properly working with AI in the 3rd year so that’s okay. However I have found out that I enjoy learning what I learnt whether it’s infrastructure to programming etc. I would reccomend this college if you want a great set of skills in your specific field as they will make sure you do and provide assistance in teams or when you are alone.
2. University of Liverpool – UOL, UK (4.56/5 Overall Rating)

The second place on our ranking of the top 10 universities in Europe goes to the University of Liverpool is a prestigious institution that also places among the best universities in the UK in traditional rankings. With a huge student population (almost 18,000) and a wide range of academic departments from life sciences to architecture, the university offers something for everyone.
Student reviewers give the University of Liverpool high ratings across the board, and it ranks number one on this list for accommodation, facilities, location and student life. This latter factor is down to the university’s location in the heart of Liverpool, a bustling city on England’s west coast, where there’s plenty of culture and entertainment for students to explore in their free time.
Student Review
I do Media and Culture and love the course modules. They’re all super interesting and clear, as well as the lecturers being extremely helpful. There is a good amount of workload that is challenging yet manageable. The University resources are also very helpful alongside a lovely campus.
Student Review
The University of Liverpool offers a top-quality education and is known for its focus on innovation. My time here has been very positive, and I have gained a lot of knowledge and skills from my course. The supportive learning environment and engaging coursework have helped me grow both academically and personally.
Student Review
Overall, the University of Liverpool is an above-average university with decent opportunities. I like the university’s tutors and its in-depth courses related to the subject, with a lot of heavy quant-focused courses. The university has a lot of reputation with employers due to its unique Redbrick and Russell Group status. Overall, it’s a good university for students who know what they want. However, while it’s great in many ways, its career support team was not up to the mark and distance from major cities like London and Manchester makes it tough for students to connect with alumni and employers. Limited work opportunities and fewer institutions and career hubs in Liverpool make it tough for students to find jobs.
1. Vilnius University, Lithuania (4.58/5 Overall Rating)

Were you expecting a university in the capital of Lithuania to rank number one in Europe and the UK on our student ranking? Student reviewers were highly complimentary about Vilnius University, giving the university high ratings across the board, but particularly for value for money (it scored the highest on this list), internationality, and professors.
The institution is one of the oldest universities in Eastern Europe, dating back to 1579. It has 14 faculties, across humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and IT, and has a stunning campus in the hearth of Vilnius, close to the city’s sights. Students at Vilnius University say that there’s a strong academic culture at the university, and the institution’s connection to Lithuanian heritage and traditions makes for a unique study experience. Plus, the university’s tuition fees are far lower than other comparable institutions in Europe, and the cost of living in Lithuania is low – about 22% lower than in the second-place city, Liverpool.
Student Review
Hey!
I wanted to write at least something about studying Business Administration and Management in Vilnius University because I think it’s a good option if you are thinking about it.
To begin with, the University itself is in the beautiful city of Vilnius where this great mix of past and contemporary is felt. The campus is full of life and lively; perfect for the student’s atmosphere and to carry out their studies.
Business Administration and Management is truly the most inclusive course, it has virtually everything from marketing to finance and even entrepreneurship. Professors are knowledgeable and, it seems, really dedicated to what they know and what they explain, so, classes are not only helpful, but fascinating as well. They’re super friendly and you can always get in touch if you are struggling.
But of all these things, it is the applied nature of the program that I like most. Lots of internships and projects that will help get real life experience which is priceless when getting out of college.
It has a wonderful student culture and it really helps where all the clubs and activities here make it easy to make new friends. The city is also very nice for site seeing, there are a number of well-established cafes restaurants and cultural activities.
In finality, any decision to study at Vilnius University should not rule out the Business Management program and I encourage anyone interested to undergo the program. In one word – it is fantastic combined program of education, culture and entertainment. You won’t be regret don’t worry👀
Student Review
l am Master student in Vilnius University. As Student Ambassador candidate, l just want to share my thoughts about program and university. l am studying in International and European Law Master Program. l really like university facilities, professors and staff. l enriched my knowledge in law with this program, depite l am still 1st year student. However, l should mention one issue. Apart from positive sides, accommodation is not pursuant to modern standards and needs reparation immediately.
l highly recommend Vilnius University to all students who especially wants to do research in their fields.
Student Review
As a first year student in Software engineering, the study programme and academic work load is pretty demanding. The Mathematic and Informatics faculty buildings aren’t really renovated, but the lecturers are friendly and proffessional. There is a lot of study material and expensive databases that you get access to. The student community is pretty active and involved in many student focused event organizing.
Conclusion
Our ranking of the top 10 universities in Europe and the UK contains some surprises.
For starters, no country has more than two universities on the list; Italy and UK both have two. Although traditionally top-ranked universities make the list (the University of Liverpool and Erasmus University Rotterdam are both among the top 200 universities in the world according to the Times Higher Education rankings), it also features less well-known institutions.
One of these is Vilnius University, which is increasingly offering English-language study programmes to international students.
Our data also suggests that students at Erasmus University Rotterdam are consistency happy with the quality of their study experience. In addition to ranking among the top 10 universities in Europe, the school also featured on our ranking of the best universities in Europe based on data from 2016 to 2024.
Has this ranking inspired you to consider studying abroad? You can find more insights in the rest of our Student Reviews Guide 2025, including our ranking of the best universities rated by international students and the best and worst degrees for job prospects.
