Established in 1913, Erasmus University Rotterdam was able to operate as a public university in the Netherlands. It is the largest and one of the foremost Academic Medical and Trauma Center in the country as well as the whole of Europe and beyond. It has seven faculties and focuses more on the following: – Health – Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences
– Wealth – Erasmus School of Economics and Rotterdam School of Management
– Governance – Erasmus School of Law and Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences
– Culture – Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication, Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences.Show more
You have a huge culture driven social base with people from all over the world who you live, interact and grow with. It prepares you to enter the job market through understanding a variety of people whom you haven’t lived with before. This is further pushed by the interactive structure of classes and lectures done by the university as well as the degree of social opportunities it provides through food, committees and activities. I highly recommend this university to anyone looking for a balance of professionalism and social activity.View more
I‘ve been studying the international bachelor of communication and media for a little over half a year now and I really like it so far. The course is by far one of the most international courses in the Netherlands, with classrooms filled with students from all over the world. The teachers also are from various different countries and some of them have even worked for big names in the media industry, such as CNN and they often give anecdotes to give you an idea of where you might end up one day. The course is very interesting and covers topics from sociology, communication psychology, but also scientific research methods. Even though Erasmus tried to implement opportunities for creative work, such as the design of campaigns, the course is very focused on research and science. You will need to do a lot of readings on the theory and most of us would love to do more creative assignments such as the production of media. Nevertheless, I still really enjoy the course and would recommend it to everyone who’s interested in working in the field of media. One big drawback about studying in Rotterdam is the housing situation. There is not a lot of affordable student housing, so I would really advise anyone who’s considering studying here to start looking very early in the year. I’ve even heard about people who stayed in hotels for months and instead of building a student housing building the university decided to build yet another study space and a new sports building. The campus of Erasmus is very big and has amazing modern facilities with various restaurants.View more
Honestly, there’s much room for improvement regarding the course as a whole. There is too much self-study for them to be able to call themselves “the number 1”. My overall experience is not too great and it is not what I was expecting at all.View more
Studying at Erasmus University for almost a year now has given me a plethora of invaluable experiences. I would recommend the Management of International Social Challenges programme to anyone who is interested in current affairs and desires to contribute a positive change one way or another.
I wish our readings included more POC authors, lgbtq perspectives and was more outside of the Eurocentric, westernized scope. The students are welcoming and the members of faculty are as well.
The study can be challenging at times for a number of reasons. Firstly, we have finals every 4,5 weeks and we also have less time off than most other dutch universities. In addition, apart from exceptions due to covid, all students are expected to pass all first year courses. Finally, both an advantage and a challenge at the same time, the courses multidisciplinary approach offers a complex and (to a point) complete view of the topics that will be studied. At times this can be off-putting at certain blocks and a lot of extra work might be required. However, after the studies come to an end there is a large variety of paths one can follow.
I would recommend the Management of International Social Challenges.
Ps1.EUR is indeed a challenging university and hard work is a requirement
Ps2. There is no student accommodation offered by the university
you can find a list though of the institutions that cooperate with Erasmus on their main page
Ps3. Rotterdam is a very quiet city with many things to do. It is vastly different from other cities. Travelling from city to city is so simple you can still visit most other cities in one or two hours
Ps4. So much more to write about, hope my review is helpful
The PBL program is well organized and stimulating the content of the course is interesting but sometimes not relevant/outdated. Working in small groups is an innovative way to meet new people and everyone has a chance to participate in the discussion. The university itself is well organized and modern and provides us with good learning resources and spaces. The support staff of the university is also more than willing to offer help for students in need which I have appreciated on several occasions.View more
A relevant syllabus taught by enthusiastic teachers. Depending on the applicant and the subject the coursework may be adequate or a lot. The campus offers many facilities that can be explored on the university website.View more
Overall, the lifestyle in Erasmus is pretty cool. The professors have a good command of the English language and explain the material in an organized way, thus motivating us to study the program and making the course really interesting and inspiring.
However, due to the pandemic, we had to follow online courses. For me, I prefer on-campus lectures rather than online lectures because online lectures are not as motivating as on-campus. It’s really annoying to follow lectures on a screen rather than physical interaction with others.
Erasmus University Rotterdam is a real life-changing move, however. Personally speaking, I am experiencing a new life in Rotterdam.
I believe now that we are back on campus, students can experience campus life in Erasmus University Rotterdam.
This bachelor’s has to be one of the most international ones at Erasmus and The courses are fairly easy. Classes and lectures are taken all over campus the first year so you get a good feel of the environment and study spaces. As for the gym and study spaces, always get your spot on time and go in the weirdest times possible because it’s ALWAYS FULL!!! The campus is clean and easy to navigate but if you ever get lost everyone is friendly and would definitely help you. Professors can be hit or miss, but their English is great and they’re always open to answering questions or clarifying things.
I find BA to be a doable study, the workload isn’t huge and the lectures and material are easy to follow and learn from. One thing I can mention about the campus that I really like is the food plaza: there is 8 food court type of restaurants u can choose from and most of them are good. Prices for food on campus are a bit steeper than in other places though. There is also a fun student bar on campus that I recommend visiting. Other mention-worthy facilities are the sports building where u can get a membership pass and use. The campus gym is huge and full of familiar faces… it’s a good uni!View more
Generally, I can say that Health Economics, Policy and Law master at Erasmus University is one of the best in that field, Putting into consideration the scientific content and the team of professors and teachers makes it as I said one of the best.
In this review, I will recommend 3 tips as a guidance for you before coming to Rotterdam to start this program especially if you are an international student like me.
First, I recommend taking a course about the basics of Statistics and Economics if you haven’t passed through such subjects in your previous studies like me, I am a Pharmacist and all my studies before was mainly chemistry and pharmaceutical sciences so starting this programs with alot of statistical and economical terms wasn’t the best start.
Second, Start searching for your accommodation before coming by at least 2-3 months, Finding a nice place to stay here at a good location with an affordable price is not an easy call at all.
Last but not least, you need to have a good plan for taxing your exams here, You don’t have to take all the exams as it’s announced. You can take one now, the other later. It’s your call according to your capability and being ready for the exam, Simply NO RUSH !.
Finally, I want to confirm and say it again, This program at this University is one of the best, with a little arrangement and preparation I can assure you an awesome academic year at EUR in Rotterdam.
Good Luck All 🙂View more
