A business cannot survive if its products are not marketed in the proper way. Luckily for all the businesses out there, the number of candidates wanting to pursue a marketing career is growing tremendously.
The aim of this degree is to help students anticipate, manage, and satisfy customers’ needs and wants. By doing so, they will be able to effectively communicate the benefits of any business product to the targeted market.
Due to the fact that marketing is a complex industry, which tackles many areas ranging from market research to advertising and promotion, this degree focuses on all parts of the process before concentrating on a particular area of study.
Good news for marketing graduates! If you did not know yet, marketing is an essential aspect of all types of businesses, from all sectors of activity. Thus, all of them rely on marketers to promote and sell their products. A high market demand comes with many job opportunities available.
According to Labor Department Findings, graduates with a marketing degree can earn 98% more per hour than the ones working in the industry without having a specialised degree.
Furthermore, students are equipped with transferable skills, such as excellent communication abilities, strategic thinking, planning, data analysis and so on, that can be used in other industries too.
Marketing degrees can be studied either as Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc). The major difference lies in the presence of more scientific and technological aspects, which are commonly seen in a BSc rather than a BA.
Like most degrees, marketing courses last between three and four years, depending on the university. However, there are institutions which give students the possibility to do a two-year associate’s degree – also called a ‘foundation’ degree.
Even if graduating from both degrees qualifies candidates to work in this industry, a Bachelor degree has higher chances to lead you to well-paid jobs.

View moreI took part in the MSc Marketing Management course at Rotterdam School of Management. The professors were very qualified and extremely helpful and I took away a lot of knowledge through the courses and electives.
View moreI study liberal arts and sciences at Erasmus University College and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The designed courses are challenging, but doable. This shows that the program coordinator invests time and effort in the student’s study career.
View moreMy name is Felicia Graur, and currently, I am doing my Marketing Master at Erasmus School of Economics. Even though I have just started the MSc in September I have managed to form a clear opinion regarding the university and I am more than happy to share it will potential candidates that are looking for a place to start their academic careers.
Therefore, I would like to begin by mentioning the accessibility of information that the university provides to its potential and existing students. In the process of evaluating my master options, the university websites provide a clear and detailed description of the specific requirements and courses within certain masters, accompanied by alumni personal opinions regarding the programme. Personally, this specific aspect played a crucial role that influenced my master programme decision. Additionally, once enrolled within a programme, I got to receive a fair amount of follow-up emails suggesting the next steps needed to be taken in order to continue my transition not only within the university community but also in Rotterdam as a city. On their official website, the university provides guidance when it comes to finding accommodation by conveying specialised websites, that specifically target students; thus the university contributes towards easing the struggle of finding a place to live in Rotterdam.
Although helpful, this abundance of information directed at the new students at times seems overwhelming. In my opinion, I must say that the initial two weeks of September, the start of the academic year, was pretty chaotic for me, given the fact that the university works with more than 2 portals. Therefore, it took me a while to understand how to distinguish the different platforms. However, one should not be worried, as the accommodation period will not last for more than a few weeks. In addition there is always the opportunity to ask your fellow students or professors.
Having mentioned the implication of professors in the academic life of the students, I can state that compared with my previous education, the relationship between teacher-student is a much closer one than previously experienced. I have already had the chance to conversate with my professors not only regarding academic or course-related topics but also relating to potential job opportunities within their field of work. I must say that the conversations were quite inspiring and helped me answer certain personal questions regarding my future career and what could be its optimal starting point.
Finally, I cannot but mention the advanced campus structure, where on a fairly small surface the university has managed to incorporate all that a student might need: helping/service desks, a great number of study spaces, library, sports/activity center, food canteenes/cafes and last but not least a pub. Erasmus University is indeed a small city in itself within the beautiful city of Rotterdam.
View moreI am currently studying my Master’s degree in Marketing at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam (Erasmus School of Economics). The Master in Marketing is a specialisation of the M.Sc in Business and Economics and places an emphasis on the combination of Market Research, Branding/Digital Marketing, and Selling Perspectives.
With the content, I am so far pleased. It covers a variety of topics in-depth and is very interactive and interesting, especially since it features a lot of guest lecturers and practical matters. There is also a lot of courses that feature a lot of assignment work – so if you are someone who dreads continuous work or deadline work, this is not for you since it will have an impact on your grades.
Overall, I am pretty pleased and excited for the rest of it.
