The top 10 Universities of 2026
Summary and Methodology
To create a ranking of the top 10 universities in Europe, we analysed data from EDUopinions reviews posted between January 1st 2025 and December 31st 2025. We then filtered by university country, retaining only European countries with at least 10 reviews. This gave us a total of 3,475 reviews to analyse.
For universities to appear in the final ranking, they needed at least 20 reviews. We also removed business schools from the list; these institutions typically have smaller student populations and offer only business and management degrees. You can see our ranking of the Best Business Schools of 2026 here.
The resulting ratings are from students and graduates of each university, across Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, and vary by in-person and online courses, providing a wide range of student perspectives and experiences.
10. Eötvös Loránd University – ELTE (4.35/5 Overall Rating)

Student Review – International Relations
I really like student life at ELTE. I study in the Social Science campus and there are always events, mentoring programs and something to do between classes. The professors are also well-prepared. I wish they open the library, it’s under renovations for over 6 months by now…
Student Review – International Relations
ELTE is an outstanding Hungarian university. Great infrastructure, supportive staff and professors. The International Relations major is well-structured and provides a comprehensive understanding of global politics, diplomacy, and economics. The university also fosters a diverse and inclusive environment, with a vibrant international community that enriches the student experience. Overall, ELTE offers an excellent academic experience
9. University of GdaŃsk – UG (4.38/5 Overall Rating)

Located on Poland’s stunning Baltic coast, the University of Gdańsk offers students an exceptional blend of academic excellence and affordable living in an underrated student city. The university’s location in the Tricity metropolitan area (Gdańsk, Gdynia, and Sopot) provides students with excellent cultural opportunities and a thriving community along one of Europe’s most picturesque coastlines. Plus, you’ll benefit from modern research facilities and laboratories, and spend time exploring the beautiful city of Gdańsk itself, with its beautifully restored Old Town, maritime heritage, and access to sandy beaches.
Student Review – Management
Studying at the University of Gdańsk is useful for learning from people that have interesting experience. The courses have many group projects and workshops, which help you improve practical and teamwork skills. The university is by the sea, which is nice, but sometimes there are not enough real work experiences during the studies.
Student Review – Humanities, Society, and Culture
overall a good and interesting programme especially the media literacy classess which gave very good inside in how media shapes our perception and democracy and how media in the scandinavian countries looks like. A bit more practical language lessons would be good though
8. University of Liverpool – UOL (4.43/5 overall Rating)

One of the UK’s original red brick universities and a founding member of the prestigious Russell Group, the University of Liverpool combines world-class research with an outstanding student experience. Liverpool ranks among our top student cities in Europe this year; here, you can take advantage of a low cost of living, legendary nightlife, and a rich cultural scene rooted in music heritage. With 26,000 students studying at the university, including 9,000 international students, and access to vibrant job opportunities in nearby Manchester, the University of Liverpool provides the perfect balance of academic excellence and memorable life.
Student Review – Medicine
In every aspect, top to bottom, the University of Liverpool surpassed my expectations. With its cutting-edge facilities and esteemed faculty who made my education genuinely remarkable, the school’s reputation is well-deserved. My perspective was widened and I gained new confidence from interacting with peers from different backgrounds. Because of the school’s wide network and stellar success record, there were plenty of promising career options available after graduation. In addition, there were many clubs, extracurricular activities, and student organizations that catered to a wide range of interests, making campus life lively and interesting. All in all, my time at the University of Liverpool was incredibly memorable and life-changing.
Student Review – Medicine
One of the University of Liverpool’s greatest strengths is its faculty. They are enthusiastic, informed, and genuinely concerned about the pupils they instruct. Being a part of this encouraging academic community makes me feel incredibly fortunate. Another excellent feature is the interdisciplinary support, where instructors work hard to make sure you understand the material and can use it in your line of work. They are very personable and obviously want each student to succeed in the course as well as in their post-university lives.
7. University of Warsaw – UW (4.53/5 Overall Rating)

Poland’s largest and most prestigious university, the University of Warsaw welcomes over 30,000 students across 25 faculties, excelling in humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Students enjoy modern facilities, including the award-winning University Library and access to one of Europe’s most dynamic capitals, with over 200 student clubs creating a thriving student community in this affordable, culturally rich city.
Student Review – Security Studies
I felt welcome there and I enjoyd my time, however be careful when choosing a degree. It is always better to choose something that will provide you with a good career. Generally I think this uni is a great place for sociable people, but if you’re an introvert you will also find your people.
Student Review – English Language Teaching
I enjoyed time spent on this university. Lectures were good and interesting, and also gave me reason to think about them afterwise. I liked the atmosphere on the campus, especially during the night when everything was dark and illuminated by the street lamps.
6. University of New York in Prague – UNYP (4.57/5 Overall Rating)

Established in 1998, the University of New York in Prague (UNYP) offers American-style liberal arts education in one of Europe’s most beautiful capital cities. Students can choose from a wide variety of programmes in business, international relations, psychology, and communications, and classes average just 15 students, ensuring personalised attention. The campus sits in the city centre, allowing students to immerse themselves in Prague’s culture and history during their studies. In fact, this year the city ranked number one in our student-led ranking of the best student cities in Europe – for the second year in a row.
Student Review – Business Administration
A place with a particularly helpful approach to learning, which is based more so on individualistic expression and a back-and-forth dialogue as opposed to simply listening/learning/repeating. Also, it is one the best places for international education that will truly prepare students for a career that transcends borders.
Student Review – International Relations
I’ve been at UNYP for two semesters, and by far the best part about it has to be the quality of my professors. I am in the international relations program, and I am glad to be taught by genuine experts in their fields who have hands-on experience in the subjects they teach. Sure, UNYP isn’t the biggest uni, and it has its fall-backs here & there, but I think the education it offers, networking opportunities, exposure to other cultures, and such outweigh the negatives.
5. Universidade Católica Portuguesa – Porto (4.58/5 Overall Rating)

Breaking into our top five universities of 2026 is the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Porto. This leading Portuguese institution combines academic excellence with ethical values and social responsibility, and is located on a beautiful campus in Foz, near the beach. With Porto ranking highly as an emerging European student city, students enjoy Portugal’s sunny climate, affordable living costs, excellent food, and warm hospitality whilst receiving a top-tier European education.
Student Review – Nutritional Sciences
The Catholic University offers quality education, qualified faculty, good infrastructure, and excellent networking opportunities. It values ethical and human development, but could invest more in innovation and technology.
Student Review – Law
It was an amazing experience to study at Catolica as a Erasmus student. Professors were really nice and helpful but at the same time they teach you a lot in interesting way. I can say that the level of education is high and the professors are really good. Also, university supports Erasmus student by organizing welcome dinners or meetings with local students. I really appreciate the time which I spend at Catolica as a student.
4. Durham University – DUR (4.64/5 Overall Rating)

A collegiate university dating back to 1832, Durham combines centuries of tradition with cutting-edge research. Ranked consistently in the UK’s top 10, Durham offers exceptional programmes across disciplines, with particular strengths in business, physics, geography, and education. The university’s unique 17-college system creates tight-knit communities and fosters lifelong friendships, and students have the privilege of studying in a UNESCO World Heritage Site – and one of our top hidden gem student cities in Europe.
Student Review – Geography
Professors are very enthusiastic and always willing to share and teach in different methods encouraging interactive learning and exchange of information. The university life was thrilling and excited, I was always willing to learn and looking forward to each lecture. It built my career, professional life and character.
Student Review – Classics
With an interesting variety of modules, professors/teachers, and assessment style, I felt that Durham truly provided a great base for my course. I was exposed to so many different things, and was able to take modules outside of my course to support my interests. Assessment is carried out in different ways such as essays, translation work, commentaries, reports, presentations, and projects. The professors are friendly and supportive, creating a great atmosphere for learning.
3. University of Leeds (4.64/5 Overall Rating)

At number three on our ranking is another prestigious UK university, and one of the country’s largest Russell Group universities, the University of Leeds. The university is particularly well known for engineering and business studies, and has outstanding study and research programmes in food science, media, and medicine. The vibrant city of Leeds offers world-class shopping, thriving nightlife, and excellent value, with easy access to the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors for weekend trips into nature.
Student Review – English Language and Literature
I studied English Language and Literature at Leeds, and what I liked most was how naturally the course pulled me into thinking differently about everyday language. The course itself was great. The School of English is a beautiful building to work in and modules were varied. The downsides were mostly practical, eg popular modules filled up fast, and during deadline season finding a seat in Edward Boyle Library felt like a competitive sport.
The campus itself is stunning, particularly in spring and having Hyde Park right there made everything feel lighter. Great student life, with cheap local pubs, and even a bar at the Student Union. Overall, Leeds gave me a degree I’m proud of and a student experience I’d happily relive.
Student Review – Economics
Mt Time at Leeds studying Economics has been both challenging and fulfilling….The program dives deep into theory while also connecting ideas to real-world policy and business issues. I like my lecturers; they are passionate and well-prepared, and there’s a good mix of independent research and group discussion. However, the workload can be heavy, especially during exam periods, and some modules move quite fast. Still, the support from tutors and the overall academic standard make it worth the effort. Leeds pushes you to think critically, question assumptions, and truly understand how economics shapes the world around you.
2. Vilnius University (4.68/5 Overall Rating)

Last year’s number one university, Vilnius University, has dropped just one spot in the ranking this year, but still comes out with a higher overall rating in 2025 – from 4.58 to 4.68, proving its commitment to student satisfaction. This is one of Northern Europe’s oldest universities and Lithuania’s leading institution, with over 25,000 students studying humanities, life sciences, medicine, law, economics, and technology. The stunning campus features baroque architecture alongside state-of-the-art facilities, including one of Europe’s oldest libraries dating to 1570. Students benefit from affordable tuition and Lithuania’s strong safety rankings, while Vilnius is a hidden gem, offering UNESCO World Heritage sites, vibrant cultural events, and exceptional value.
Student Review – European Studies
Without a doubt, I would suggest this university. It offers a large selection of study programs for both foreigners and Lithuanians. It is one of Lithuania’s largest and oldest universities. The main structure is located in the center of Vilnius’ historic district. The academics at the top of the academic hierarchy are quite strong. Since it’s the most sought-after university in Lithuania for students, it’s difficult to get in and difficult to stay, but the effort is worthwhile. Campus life is vibrant and offers a wide range of extracurricular activities, student organizations, and events due to its size.
Student Review – Data Science
I was amazed by how Vilnius University, one of the oldest universities in Eastern Europe, manages to integrate cutting-edge tech like AI into its curriculum. The professors are highly supportive and the course content is very up-to-date. The campus in the old town is charming, and the international student community is growing every year.
1. Anglo-American University – AAU (4.74/5 Overall Rating)

Taking the top spot in our ranking of the best universities of 2026 is Anglo-American University in Prague! AAU offers dual US- and European-accredited degrees delivered entirely in English, providing students with a rigorous academic experience in one of Europe’s most historic cities. Prioritising small class sizes of just 17 students, the university offers personalised education in business, international relations, journalism, law, psychology, and visual arts. Additionally, AAU holds prestigious WASC accreditation, ensuring world-class educational standards. Students thrive in Prague’s safe, affordable environment whilst benefiting from strong career services, international faculty, and hands-on learning opportunities that students rate as the very best in Europe.
Student Review – International Relations
I had 3 wonderful years studying International relations and diplomacy at AAU. They offer a variety of classes, top-notch lecturers, a vibrant social scene for its students, and an intimate relationship between the administration, the faculty and the students. AAU boasts of all the benefits of a private university with smaller classes, the possibility for one-on-ones with the professors, and less bureaucratic red tape. Not to forget its superb location in the center of Prague, and beautiful classrooms. I had a wonderful time there, and can say from the bottom of my heart to anyone else contemplating going there to study: you will not regret it!
Student Review – Humanities, Society, and Culture
I am currently in my third year at AAU in the Humanities program, and I thoroughly enjoy the education I receive. The classes are capped at 25 students, and all of my professors engage actively with the students. While they may have a different approach, many of them, if not all, will include debates, discussions, student presentations, and group work. The education I have received at AAU will be invaluable towards my professional and personal future.
Top 10 Universities of 2026: International Student Ranking

There’s some variation between our international student ranking and our overall ranking. Notably, more UK universities feature in international student rankings, which shouldn’t be a surprise given that the UK is one of the top global destinations for students. However, the fact that the University of Brighton and Bangor University beat Oxbridge proves that there’s more to the UK than the top-ranked institutions.
