What Is an Economics Degree?

Are you passionate about the business and finance sector? Do you follow the national and international news? Then, an Economics degree is the answer. It has always been one of the most sought-after degrees amongst youth.

Economics degrees are designed to tackle all the issues that have an impact on financial situations, ranging from production to how resources are used. Candidates are trained to understand how the economy suffers fluctuations based on the market’s needs and wants followed by the market’s supply and demand.

By far one of the most crucial elements is that economics is divided into microeconomics and macroeconomic. Microeconomics deals with the economic behaviour at an individual level (companies, buyers, sellers and others), whilst macroeconomics illustrates the bigger picture, on a national or global scale (unemployment, economic growth, inflation and so on).

Benefits of an Economics Degree

Having an economics degree increases anyone’s chances to find a job, regardless of the field. This is mainly due to the fact that graduates hold many transferable abilities, such as analytical and problem-solving skills, that are suitable for any career.

A study made by the London School of Economics and Political Science showed that graduates from an economics course have a starting salary of £33,000 per year. Having a job in the field right after graduation is a major positive aspect and comes with a lot of opportunities for career advancement.

Economics Degree Structure

Economics degrees are usually a three years commitment and sometimes are offered as part of a joint degree. This means that Economics can be studied along with another subject such as engineering, management, law, computer science and others.

This degree can be found either as a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Arts (BA). The BSc focuses more on economical theory and statistical techniques, while BA is combined with social sciences and qualitative modules.

    Proud alumni for sure

Surrey will forever be my home away from home. I have graduated last year but I still kept in touch will all my professors and friends. This university helped me in so many ways and made me the professional I am today. At the moment I work at McKinsey and I love my job. Without my BSc in Economics from Surrey I highly doubt I would have been able to achieve all that I did. So lets go by steps best and worse about surrey. Best: everyone knows each other, non-competitive environment and the placement year. If you ask me everyone should do a placement I did mine in the UK government as an economic advisor. Not only it looked great at my cv and gave a safety option after I graduated from the University of Surrey but it also allowed me to graduate without debt. And I cannot stress enough how nice that is. Since day one at Surrey they will give you the tools to land the best internships, part times and jobs at the end. During my time I worked as an ambassador for three companies, did 2 summers and one placement. All thanks to Surrey. Also University Life at Surrey is amazing. I will always miss Rubix. Cons about Surrey: hahaha I don’t have any but I might be biased

    Why Surrey

Surrey is a very good university. Surrey Business School is without a doubt the best in the world. I really enjoyed it, an internship at JP Morgan learned a lot and finally decided to go back. I recommend all student finance internships the best way to secure a graduation job

    Good university nice people

I really enjoyed studying at Guildford. It’s a beautiful city. Many people live there and work in London. I was doing my internship in Westminster as a private secretary for a Member of Parliament. The teachers were also very good. I recommend environmental economics

Great experience at Surrey Business School

Very good school. I feel I learned a lot at Surrey Business School. The principal in my day became the principal of one of the Ivy League universities. It was a big loss for Surrey but I know the university is still very strong. Congratulations to all the students who have taken Surrey to all corners of the world. Hands down the best small university in the UK.

    Great Feedback

The business course in Surrey is fortissimo. After completing the course I attended the Masters of Finance at Oxford, Cambridge, LSE and LBS. I chose LBS. I also came to Kearney for a summer internship. Surrey is very good without a doubt. I recommend all students to do an internship or at least a summer internship. I have my internship at Morgan Stanley and in the summer at JP Morgan, but ended up following the strategic advice.

Surrey is easily the most underrated university

Most UK employers recognize Surrey as a top 5 university. If you go abroad, you’ll find that Surrey has ten times the global footprint of Durham or Bristol (and you have to remember that Surrey is a lot smaller). If we start discussing employability statistics, you’ll find that Surrey graduates earn up to 50% more than, say, Kings College. Why? It’s uncomplicated. Surrey has the best internship program in the UK and there is no university that can match Surrey

Better than most Russel Group Unis

Before I came to Surrey in Germany there was a mania that only the Russell Group universities were good. Glad I didn’t hear them. I loved studying in Surrey and quickly realized that Surrey is by far one of the top 5 universities. Surrey is well known in the working world for the internship year. I was still in my second year and already had three job offers and two summer internships. Meanwhile, the UCL crew felt their course was adequate. Couldn’t be more wrong

    Loved the uni

Good uni amazing student environment. I loved studying ca. My parents always recommended me to go to the UK and honestly it was an excellent decision there are so many opportunities. However, competition is also intense when I applied for placement I reached the final stage of JP Morgan in which I had a recruiter interview 20 people from my course.
