View moreI studied Media Production at the University of Brighton between the years of 2018-2021, overall my experience was mixed. I had several opportunities which were cut short due to the Covid 19 virus closing down all campus based activities, which lead to a dampener on the full experience which I should have gained. That being said I also had several experiences which showed how good the university could be, this included the use of facility within the building as we had access to a full television studio set up in which we learned how to apply knowledge to a working experience. The university libraries are vast and allow for different learning styles to be applied within a single space, which is ultimately very positive, this can be said about the campus’s as well as they allow for a variety of styles to be portrayed depending on the individual.
View moreDuring my first year, (2020) I experienced the Covid-19 pandemic with lockdowns and so did not attend any lectures on campus. Everything was conducted online and it was pretty hard to socialise with people on the course. With everything going on, it was pretty understandable.
The second year, (2021) was disastrous. Although the lectures were all in person and things felt a bit more normal, like being able to socialise and meet lecturers, the majority of this year was spent on strikes. This meant most of what I was meant to be taught, I had to teach myself through presentation slides that mostly very brief because the majority of lectures were cancelled. For paying the tuition fee we pay each year, this is definitely is not what we asked for at all. Understandably, there are reasons for strike but the management should be able to help it’s many students succeed in their degree.
Now in my third and final year, it has so far been the best but unfortunately this is what my university experience should have been like.
I have all my lectures, the lectures are great to ask anything.
I have just started my second year at Brighton and thoroughly enjoyed my first year. The University and lecturers are welcoming, helpful and made my experience a success. My course itself includes selective modules, meaning you can adapt your learning to what interests you and gives you much more freedom. The study platform is easy to use which means finding study materials and submitting assessments is a quick and simple process. The student union encourages you to meet new students and sets up freshers events as well as creating other social opportunities throughout the year. Overall I am very pleased with my choice of university and hope I will continue to enjoy my time here.
