I’m currently studying BA Marketing at Birmingham City University and overall, I’ve had a good experience so far. One of the things I like most is that the course is quite practical. A lot of the assignments are based on real marketing tasks, like creating campaigns, doing research, working in groups and presenting ideas, which makes it feel more useful than just learning theory.
In my first year, I got to work on creative projects, including building a brand for a fictional music artist and creating visuals for it. That helped me try new things, like using Photoshop, even though I had never used it properly before. It was stressful at times, but it definitely helped me build confidence.
Most lecturers are helpful and explain things well, especially when you ask questions. I also like that BCU is in Birmingham because there are lots of opportunities around the city, especially for students interested in business, marketing and creative industries.
The main thing I think could be improved is that some assignment briefs could be clearer from the beginning. Sometimes it takes a bit of time to understand exactly what they want. But overall, I would recommend BCU to students who want a practical course and a university experience that helps them build real skills.
