What Is an Economics Degree?

Are you passionate about the business and finance sector? Do you follow the national and international news? Then, an Economics degree is the answer. It has always been one of the most sought-after degrees amongst youth.

Economics degrees are designed to tackle all the issues that have an impact on financial situations, ranging from production to how resources are used. Candidates are trained to understand how the economy suffers fluctuations based on the market’s needs and wants followed by the market’s supply and demand.

By far one of the most crucial elements is that economics is divided into microeconomics and macroeconomic. Microeconomics deals with the economic behaviour at an individual level (companies, buyers, sellers and others), whilst macroeconomics illustrates the bigger picture, on a national or global scale (unemployment, economic growth, inflation and so on).

Benefits of an Economics Degree

Having an economics degree increases anyone’s chances to find a job, regardless of the field. This is mainly due to the fact that graduates hold many transferable abilities, such as analytical and problem-solving skills, that are suitable for any career.

A study made by the London School of Economics and Political Science showed that graduates from an economics course have a starting salary of £33,000 per year. Having a job in the field right after graduation is a major positive aspect and comes with a lot of opportunities for career advancement.

Economics Degree Structure

Economics degrees are usually a three years commitment and sometimes are offered as part of a joint degree. This means that Economics can be studied along with another subject such as engineering, management, law, computer science and others.

This degree can be found either as a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Arts (BA). The BSc focuses more on economical theory and statistical techniques, while BA is combined with social sciences and qualitative modules.

    Modules

The modules chosen for my course is exceptional and welcoming from a job standpoint. Although there’s quite a rush in everything the aim of understanding is completely fulfilling. The campus is welcoming and charm. I love the library and my sources to learn is wide open. The encouragement to learn more and activities for wellness purposes are truly to be appreciated. I’m proud to say I belong at Bath

    Overall Experience

University of Bath being a top 10 university in the UK lives up to its expectations. I study economics and maths which is a course not provided by many universities in the UK because of the heavy workload of 2 major subjects, however, the university provides great resources to cope up with the workload and the lecturers/seminar teachers provide an elaborate method of segregating work. The university is known for its world-class sports facilities as it is one of the best universities in terms of sports. The university as a whole is inclusive of all the students and societies provide a great platform to meet new people. The university has the highest graduate employment rate in the UK. Bath is known to be a student city so there is a nightlife for people who like to go clubbing. It’s also close to Bristol which is one of the major cities in England.

    Good facilities and highly ranked!

Very good university overall – teaching standard varies between lecturers with some being very good and helpful out of lectures but some lecturers are not quite as engaging or approachable. One of the best things about the uni is its high ranking which increases placement opportunities, and the placement team were very helpful when searching for a job. The uni has good free sports facilities but the gym is quite crowded. Beautiful campus and lake!

    Great

I like that the uni has a strong sense of community and because it’s quite small it feels very welcoming, however by the end of 3 years the small city can be a bit boring. The standard of teaching is good and the opportunity to do placement is so useful.

    Everything you could want

Perfect mix of city living and being in the countryside. Campus is beautiful. It’s a smaller uni which is really nice because everyone has mutual friends, but it’s big enough that there’s a nice variety! Amazing sports facilities and a huge range of extra curricular activities

    A top-tier university in a beautiful city

The university is one of the best universities in the UK with regards to Economics. The Director of Studies’ and lecturers provide a wealth of academic knowledge and superb pastoral support. Whilst the centre of campus may not be altogether pleasing to the eye, there are many beautiful new developments around the edges with many green spaces and a lake. The campus itself is small enough to navigate and traverse easily, yet large enough to cater for everyone’s needs. The city of Bath is a UNESCO World Heritage site and boasts many stunning landmarks. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time and the University of Bath and would highly recommend it to any prospective students.

    Most approachable faculty

The university, despite having more than 15000 students (the majority of which are on site) , remains really approachable to their students and candidates. They reply within a day, they are always extremely kind and very helpful. The teachers are more than willing to help and seems that they do care about the quality of learning and your overall performance.

    Great experience

Great campus community. Really good facilities and generally a good standard of teaching. Accommodation is very convenient. Bus system probably the most frustrating thing about the uni. Located really close to Bristol which is a bonus.
