Taking the inaugural Master in Sports Management programme, I wasn’t sure what to expect. However, I quickly realised the approach to education (project-based with real case learning) was much better than anything I’d previously experienced.
The quality of teaching varied between each module though I was able to take a lot away from every single teacher, and on the whole the standard was excellent. Even for classes, I wasn’t expecting to love (Ethics, for example) I ended up really enjoying it.
I was fortunate to be in a small group of only 4 students so our interaction with the professors was very personal and I maintain contact with most of them. Most teachers were willing to help me in my career by introducing me to contacts in their network, for which I was very grateful.
One thing for sure is that you get out what you put in. The school doesn’t mollycoddle you, nor does it implement strict pass/fail tests. Regularly doing further research of subject material and independently expanding one’s network is key to success. Saying this, for me, it never felt like ‘work’ as it was all really interesting and enjoyable.
I’d recommend this course to people who are serious about starting a career in the sports industry.
