The university puts 90 percent of its effort into academics and that does not leave much room for anything else. I do not like that there is a lot of nightlife. I like that there is diversity because of the various cultures. I would recommend it for people who know exactly what they want to study and not so much for people who are still trying to find themselves.
View moreRhodes University is a wonderful university to apply one’s mind to any career path one decides to choose.
I completed a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Organizational Psychology & Human Kinetics & Ergonomics.
I completed my degree with a distinction and scored within the top ten percent of my class.
View moreBeing away from home is daunting and it is no different being at Rhodes University as a foreign student. Not much is considered in terms of being away from home,so it is a challenge and a half to find your way at first. My first year was not far from interesting, apart from it being my first time in South Africa, I met an interesting location in which Rhodes University is located. Grahamstown/Makhanda is a small town situated in the Eastern Cape, more of a rural settlement so don’t be surprised meeting a donkey or two on your way to class(it is very normal). Amongst a number of things to find at Rhodes University including significant monuments, donkeys, mountains and maybe to mention a drought, it is a fairly small campus so most of my classes are usually in close proximity to each other which is a plus. In term of studying you are strictly to graduate with 2 majors under the field of study of your choice.I can’t personally say that I am an endorser of this approach as I feel it restricts a person to a particular field, providing less room for versatility e.g a student can select 2 majors in the science field as they may select a BSc, any other subjects from a different field are pretty much redundant in your degree and will not provide adequate credits if studied as your 2 majors
View moreI would say the university is very student centred. It is in a very quiet so it is good place for studying.if one is looking to be away from the fast life then this is the place to be. I would say the con is that the town is very remote. I really love how much the university promotes community engagement. I would like to recommend one course that made me have a different view on life, Iintetho Zobomi which translates to conversations about life.
View moreThe school itself is excellent, particularly for students who are interested in the Information Systems and Law courses. The students’ access to water is the one thing that bothers me. For students who dwell in university-owned homes, a plan needs to be developed by the university.
