Passau is the ideal student town, located in an area deeply rooted in Bavarian traditions and yet with many international aspects.
Most of the undergraduate study programmes in Arts and Humanities allow you to choose from a variety of courses and like that build your own focus areas. Most programmes are very interdisciplinary, so make sure to choose a direction to dive into the deeper aspects of the different subjects, especially if you seek a Master’s degree later on. University also offers you many extra curriculum courses, such as language or soft skill courses. It is also relatively easy to integrate your studies abroad or a longer internship in your study plan. The libraries are well equipped and the buildings get continuously renovated. Though there is much room for improvement, there are by far not enough professors/lecturers for the number of students (at least in social sciences), the teaching methods which they use are not that innovative and administration is often not very service oriented.
However, with all these freedoms in your study programme you can seize your chance and get involved in the very active student culture at the campus. As Passau hosts many international students and offers many culture studies and political sciences programmes, there are plenty of engaged student associations, such as AEGEE-Passau. My personal experience with AEGEE is for sure the icing on my study cake, made me explore Europe, making friends and taught me many very useful soft skills for my future job that university did not provide me with. I can highly recommend joining one of the many associations!
Passau is a place to feel at home immediately, you will not want to leave – promised!
