Catholic University in Eichstätt might be the smallest one in Germany but definitely a really good one. Alma mater for around 4500 students a year, the university is famous for several programs – Journalistic (B.A., M.A.), Geography (B.A., M.A.), InterculturAd (M.A., double degree), International Relations (M.A.) and Social Work (FH).
The campus in Eichstätt is quite small and it takes you only a few minutes to get from A to B. The administration of the University is situated in a Baroque building with a picturesque garden. There are several libraries, sports hall, a cafeteria and canteen (Mensa) situated on campus. The main library is located only a few meters from the river of Altmühl and is famous for its chaise-lounges.
The size of the city sometimes is the reason why students do not choose Eichstätt for studying – to spend 2-3 years in a city with only 13,000 inhabitants might be quite a challenge. Nevertheless, I spent here the first year of my master degree studies and came back after a year abroad to finish the thesis. I find Eichstätt a great place for study because you can always find your peace and quiet for preparing to exams and also a lot of private parties all around the campus if you need to socialize with the world again. Moreover, you are always seen as a person and not only as a student number. It is not a rare case for students to celebrate the end of a semester with the professors by a pint of beer and long talks about the life.
