UVic is always bustling with people! Amongst the busyness of the library, collaborative classroom activities, and many student events, it’s incredibly easy to find friends. Most professors and TAs are friendly and willing to assist students outside the classroom. In addition, academic resources such as academic advising and help centres provide the extra support students need to succeed academically.
UVic’s resources go beyond academics. They are huge on mental health and support students through counselling, support groups, and a 24/7 helpline. Because UVic is a big school, getting appointments for counselling is tough. Sometimes wait times can be as long as 2 months. On the brighter side, UVic is beautifully surrounded by nature! With the beach 10 minutes away and many trails/hikes nearby, students can enjoy small getaways when stress is overwhelming. The pet café and Multifaith Centre are also great to take a break and destress! Another thing I love about UVic is that it’s an incredibly LGBTQ2IA friendly school. The community holds a positive attitude about its queer members, which encourages young individuals to explore their identities. Overall, UVic is a great school, with many opportunities for students to grow and explore their passions in and outside academia.
View moreI am currently enrolled in my last year of education at Uvic. My overall experience in the past 3 years has been excellent. Not only have I learned about my field of interest, but I have also gotten to know a lot about myself. My experiences with my professors have been nothing short of amazing. Every encounter I have had with my professors has been very welcoming, With the relationships, I have built, I believe I have good career prospects.
View moreI had a great experience attending school here. The professors were very approachable and cared about the success of their students. The campus is absolutely beautiful, plus there was no shortage of resources available for students. The only thing that needed improvement was their website for students as well as the online administration for grading and assignment submission.
View moreMy first year at UVic was a lukewarm experience. I like the campus and quite enjoy the experience of being around there. The classrooms are fine enough, but they are not all created equal. Labs were very enjoyable and informative for me and were my favourite part of the year. I had a few very good profs, but the majority of them seem unenthusiastic and unengaging. I lived in residence on campus and it was fairly lonely for me as an introverted person. There isn’t a huge emphasis on community and if you don’t establish yourself in a clique at the beginning of the semester you are likely to feel alone in residence.
