So far, my professors from my program are very nice, and very understanding, which makes us students encouraged to learn from them. They also look like they enjoy their job so that also adds encouragement into learning. However, I think sometimes there would be problems regarsing using big words that as English as my second language, would affect my understandings during our lessons. Topics are also too advanced. As an immigrant, there are some topics in the west that I have still haven’t heard of or haven’t known it in details. So, there would be topics that I would feel left out, as some professors would just think that it’s common knowledge for students to know the topic is about. Sometimes they would go into detail, but half of the time they would just go straight to assuming we already have knowledge about a very western centric topic.
Regarding to university in general, I would say that it’s really great that students would hold events that are welcome to other people with different cultures and ethnicities. However, I know an club that struggles to promote and hold events because they lack funds. In addition, I would hear experiences from my friends about how difficult some of their professors are, especially when it comes to grading their works and how they teach in class. Hopefully, there would be evalutions when it comes to professors. (If there hasn’t been one. So far, I haven’t heard about it yet.)
View moreYork’s Theatre program offers a wide array of disciplines, it even offers the opportunity to create your own discipline if none of the other streams is what you’re looking for. I’ve really enjoyed the opportunity to learn as much as possible about theatre, from playwriting to costuming to acting. I have no doubt the skills I’ve learned at York will come in handy in my future career in theatre. York U Keele campus is not an ideal location, though now that the subway station is open it does make it much easier. The campus itself has lots of spaces inside and outside that are good for studying if you don’t feel like living in the library the whole time. York Lanes is especially handy, it has a Doctor’s Office, Dental Office, Optomistrist, Shoppers, and a small grocery store, as well as a bunch of places to eat around campus. I found in my first year I hardly ever left.
View moreHumanities major classes were very informative. I learned a lot. I liked the techniques taught by the teachers, it was very hands-on. The workload was fair, everything compounded each year and learned new concepts. Some profs were helpful and some were not, if you got lucky with a good prof, you will enjoy the course and learn more
