As a Dance Major, I have benefited greatly from the program. We get professional experiences from the residencies that are commissioned and from the quality faculty. However, there are some factors that I feel are neglected. For instance, the experiences of the POC on campus, the lack of diversity, community within the classroom, and something dance specific is the rigor that the student must go through to maintain their scholarship. Sometimes, with respect to the COPA department, it’s almost like the students don’t get the time to enjoy everything college has to offer. This can sometimes lead to burnout, physically and emotionally. Dance is an incredibly demanding sport, and it needs balance to maintain the body as well as one’s self.
View moreThis school’s faculty and students are very invested in their time here. Both the professors and the students want to learn. This school’s majority of professors have real-world experience and knowledge, which is a huge advantage and greatly valued. Prior to attending Point Park, I attended two other schools, but none compare to this one. It is by far the most welcoming learning environment I have ever experienced.
View moreI personally dislike Point Park University and am currently struggling to get through a single semester. Though it is okay to be a small campus, this specific small campus is far too expensive for its size and resources, especially for those pursuing performing arts majors. For those at Point Park, there is a very common question: where is all of this money going? The staff regularly protest on campus due to their minimal pay mistreatment by the school, the dorms are run down and poorly kept, the dining hall has limited hours and food options, and so on. The school has somehow managed to build up a good reputation outwardly, but to those on the inside there is absolutely nothing stellar about the institution in the slightest. Students should not have to strain to find joy in their university, the school should WANT to provide a pleasing environment for those who pay to be there.
