The academic quality and teaching at Sheffield Hallam University during my Master’s degree were positive, but international students must be extremely cautious about administrative timelines.
There is a critical operational gap between the university’s final result publication date (and Administrative Review outcomes) and the Home Office Student Visa expiration date. Because final dissertation results and administrative decisions are declared very close to visa expiry dates, international students are left with virtually no time buffer to apply for in-country post-study visas (like the Graduate Route visa) or resolve any result discrepancies.
If an Administrative Review or result confirmation takes longer than expected, you are forced to leave the UK immediately to remain compliant with immigration laws.
Advice for future international students: Check your CAS course end dates and exact result release windows before enrolling, and plan your exit or visa strategy far in advance. I strongly urge the university registry to adjust assessment schedules to provide better protection for international students
The programme gave me a broad scope of what to expect within a future role in building surveying. The course gave me a practical understanding of dilapidations, the schedule of conditions and the legal framework which surrounds building surveying. The course could have handled the coronavirus situation better due to poor communication from the university itself.
