What Is a Marketing Degree?
A business cannot survive if its products are not marketed in the proper way. Luckily for all the businesses out there, the number of candidates wanting to pursue a marketing career is growing tremendously.
The aim of this degree is to help students anticipate, manage, and satisfy customers’ needs and wants. By doing so, they will be able to effectively communicate the benefits of any business product to the targeted market.
Due to the fact that marketing is a complex industry, which tackles many areas ranging from market research to advertising and promotion, this degree focuses on all parts of the process before concentrating on a particular area of study.
Benefits of a Marketing Degree
Good news for marketing graduates! If you did not know yet, marketing is an essential aspect of all types of businesses, from all sectors of activity. Thus, all of them rely on marketers to promote and sell their products. A high market demand comes with many job opportunities available.
According to Labor Department Findings, graduates with a marketing degree can earn 98% more per hour than the ones working in the industry without having a specialised degree.
Furthermore, students are equipped with transferable skills, such as excellent communication abilities, strategic thinking, planning, data analysis and so on, that can be used in other industries too.
Marketing Degree Structure
Marketing degrees can be studied either as Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc). The major difference lies in the presence of more scientific and technological aspects, which are commonly seen in a BSc rather than a BA.
Like most degrees, marketing courses last between three and four years, depending on the university. However, there are institutions which give students the possibility to do a two-year associate’s degree – also called a ‘foundation’ degree.
Even if graduating from both degrees qualifies candidates to work in this industry, a Bachelor degree has higher chances to lead you to well-paid jobs.

StudentGBfuture Career prospectsWhile studying at the university of Portsmouth for three years ,they did well in creating an easy and accessible campus that allowed you easily go from a to b. The degree studied had good teaching when it came to essays and exams however they could have done more with helping us with our future prospects and what is expected of us when finishing university and getting a job. I thought they focused too much on academia rather than the usefulness of practical experiences and skill sets needed to compete with other candidates in the job pool.

I’m a Digital Marketing student at Portsmouth University. The uni has a wide range of course degrees. The teaching method has been delivered in many different ways due to Covid, first online then in-person then blended, which did not make it easy for the students. On the other hand, the university offers plenty of support in any aspect of uni life, from study to finance support, to job searching, to recreational activities.

DorcasGreat FacilitiesUoP is a very good school in my own opinion with qualified and seasoned lecturers who are very passionate about their job.
I am presently studying MA in Digital Marketing and it has been a wonderful educative experience as I have been introduced to technological tools needed in my field barely within 2months we started the course. I need to say here that the curriculum is perfect as it is 70% practical with amazing facilities.
Contrary to my fear of loneliness or isolation when I resume because I am an international student from Nigeria; the reverse is the case as UoP happens to be another home for me. The school’s welcome package for international students is superb and next to none. The staff, students and the school’s community have been very welcoming and supportive; making my transition smooth.
I will 100% recommend you to any prospective international student over and over again. Also, every academic engagement I take in school builds more confidence in me and I strongly believe that by the end of my study, I will be a right fit for my career pursuit in Digital Marketing.
