What Is a Marketing Degree?

A business cannot survive if its products are not marketed in the proper way. Luckily for all the businesses out there, the number of candidates wanting to pursue a marketing career is growing tremendously.

The aim of this degree is to help students anticipate, manage, and satisfy customers’ needs and wants. By doing so, they will be able to effectively communicate the benefits of any business product to the targeted market.

Due to the fact that marketing is a complex industry, which tackles many areas ranging from market research to advertising and promotion, this degree focuses on all parts of the process before concentrating on a particular area of study.

Benefits of a Marketing Degree

Good news for marketing graduates! If you did not know yet, marketing is an essential aspect of all types of businesses, from all sectors of activity. Thus, all of them rely on marketers to promote and sell their products. A high market demand comes with many job opportunities available.

According to Labor Department Findings, graduates with a marketing degree can earn 98% more per hour than the ones working in the industry without having a specialised degree.

Furthermore, students are equipped with transferable skills, such as excellent communication abilities, strategic thinking, planning, data analysis and so on, that can be used in other industries too.

Marketing Degree Structure

Marketing degrees can be studied either as Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc). The major difference lies in the presence of more scientific and technological aspects, which are commonly seen in a BSc rather than a BA.

Like most degrees, marketing courses last between three and four years, depending on the university. However, there are institutions which give students the possibility to do a two-year associate’s degree – also called a ‘foundation’ degree.

Even if graduating from both degrees qualifies candidates to work in this industry, a Bachelor degree has higher chances to lead you to well-paid jobs.

    Social life

I adore UEL. Once I realized how at home I felt on this campus, I fell in love. In the social realm, making friends is really simple, and my interactions with my teachers thus far have been nothing but positive.

Excellent meals, a fantastic school atmosphere, and occasionally fun events. Thought it may be more varied. We have a lot of varied, interesting perks and things to do, and I love the events the school organizes for us. The classes are sufficiently difficult but not impossible. This school is not too stressful for me, and making friends is not too difficult.

    My experience

I spent 2 years at this university during lockdown and all lectures were online, it was a somewhat good experience however it was very hard to connect with classmates and lecturers, which kind of made it difficult.

An inclusive and multicultural environment to study

I studied at UEL my Master’s degree in International Marketing Management. It was an interesting masters with various subjects covering different areas of expertise. Our class was multicultural which made the classes even more interesting and a good knowledge-sharing experience. The professors were keen to help and support us a lot throughout the whole studying period. The campus of the university is also a great place to stay as a student located on the riverside. It is safe, has quite a lot of facilities around and it’s a great chance to meet and network with other students.

Where the world comes to you..

I studied for a master’s degree in International Marketing Management at the University of East London (UEL) a couple of years ago. I was working for the university at the time and it was suggested to me by my Director that a postgraduate qualification would be useful for my career progression.

The course was challenging (having to study part-time and hold down a busy job) but hugely rewarding and enjoyable. The teaching was rigorous and there was a strong emphasis on seminars and group presentations. Occasionally lectures were cancelled at short notice and tutorials were not always easy to book –
this is something that the university hopefully by now has addressed. The majority of students in my study groups were international students who primarily wanted to experience London and all that it has to offer as one of the world’s greatest cities.

The university isn’t and doesn’t pretend to be a Russell Group university. Instead It focuses on widening participation and allowing access to socioeconomic groups who might normally be excluded from a higher education path. The teaching facilities are good with three well stocked libraries offering both books and access to electronic learning resources. As a master’s student you’re expected to conduct a great deal of unsupervised research and I found the online Athens electronic journal system a huge help in writing my dissertation. On-campus entertainment and shopping are both limited, but the Docklands campus does have a world class sporting facility available to all students and transport into central London is relatively quick and easy.

If you want to study close to the city and in a diverse multicultural environment, then I can recommend UEL.
