What is a Management degree?

A Management degree builds a strong foundation in a wide variety of fields including business, finance, economics and marketing. It develops students’ understanding of business practices, structures, business theory, business strategy and research as well as global economies and financial markets. Doing a Management Degree also allows students to gain skills that enable them to work with financial and numerical data effectively.

Management degrees cover different managerial roles, such as Human Resource (HR) management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. They can be specialized into one of the areas mentioned above or follow a more general approach that covers most of these areas.

The range of management degrees is huge and includes Business Management, Management, Marketing Management, etc. They are predominantly offered in the business departments/business schools/management schools of different universities.

Benefits of a Management degree

One of the main benefits of this degree is that Management is a broad discipline, which keeps students’ career options open.

Management degrees could have a very practical focus, which is an opportunity for students to gain experience in the process of completing their degree before having started their professional careers. Management courses usually offer work placements and practical modules, which include business simulations and business creation in a simulated environment. Acquiring practical experience through these opportunities could make students stand out from the crowd in the job market once they graduate. Research-oriented Management degrees also exist for those who prefer the theoretical aspects of such a degree. Most courses, however, have established a good balance between theory and practice in order to meet the needs of all students.

Management degrees also prepare students to serve the managerial role across a wide range of areas, including HR management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. Students can specialize in one particular area or focus on gaining knowledge across all of these areas thanks to the high availability of different management courses.

Additionally, there is a high demand for management professionals in the contemporary business world. Therefore, taking a management course is an opportunity for students to kick-start their careers and occupy a higher position in the organizational hierarchy.

management degree Structure

Management courses usually begin by introducing students to different areas covered by the managerial role, such as organizational management, business environment, statistics, accounting and finance, business growth, etc. After the first year, institutions allow students to explore the management discipline into more depth by delivering specialized modules and offering optional modules, which enable students to choose subjects that interest them the most and are most relevant to their career aspirations.

The university is a unique campus based arrangement. The course was varied offering an array of different subject sfrom marketing to statistics. It was a sandwich degree so I spent a year in work gaining valuable experience. This contact was useful as I got further paid work withthem when I finished university. It has a lot of sporty students and there is not a drinking culture like at other universities which I like. I liked the feel of the campus and having everything easily to hand. The town centre offers some shops and local cinema.

Loughborough University has a very lively student life and the town is centered around students. Majority of the population at Loughborough is the students. Loughborough is a small town so everywhere you go, you will run into someone you know. The bartenders at the pub and student union, nearby cafes, restaurants, neighbors, etc, all students. Everything you need is within a 20 minute walking distance.

It may seem like Loughborough University is a boring university in the middle of nowhere but its the opposite! There are a variety of activities for students to get involved in such as volunteering, societies and networks, hall get togethers, nightlife, and of course sports! Loughborough is the best sports university in all of Europe. However, if you are not a sporty person, don’t be intimidated or afraid to apply because there are many opportunities for beginners and you don’t have to get into sports at all. You’d also be surprised by the amount of free time you’ll have to get involved in more activities.

If you love to party, there are 5 clubs in town including the Student Union with its weekly events. Nottingham and Leicester is also a half an hour train ride away.

There is always something interesting going on at Loughborough so you’ll never be bored. For example, Athletic Union initiations. However, if you are an international student and you are at Loughborough during winter, easter or summer break, it can get quite lonely.

There are 2 on campus gyms as well as 3 or 4 more gyms in town for those who like to maintain fitness. All the supermarkets sell a variety of high protein meals. The student union has a cafe, bubble tea shop, and a Spar. The campus shuttlebus is free inside the campus to get from one point to another because Loughborough university also has the largest campus in the UK. The library is huge with lots of resources. The town has multiple stores for shopping and every November the Charnborough council organises a funfair which is like a mini Winter Wonderland and lasts 3 days.

My experience at Loughborough has been amazing and I do not regret accepting my offer. Studying at Loughborough has changed me and being surrounded by students who are hard working and determined pushes me to be the best version of myself. I love the friends I made here and I wish my time here would go by more slowly.

    University experience

Everyone is so supportive, easy to talk to and open for anything really.
Require a decent amount of time management to be able to keep on top of everything. Stress levels can be quite high, however it was very rewarding in the end.

Had a lot of exams in comparison to students from other universities on the same courses

University life is amazing on and off campus with lots of activities to get involved in. If you are looking for something to do in the day, how about checking out the SU where you can take part in puppy petting and in the evening there is always an event on at the basement. Sports and arts are accessible to everyone and the gym is one of the best in the country!

    A developing University!

The university is a developing university. It has amazing sports facilities and a very well managed campus. The course and schools have a very good reputation around the world. However there is a long way to go for university under some schools to be more responsive to the student community.

Amazing experience but corners always cut

I have loved my time at university and the student experience for the most part really has been amazing. One fault I would like to point out is that some of the lecturers put minimal effort into teaching their modules. Obviously there are some wonderful lecturers who try their hardest to get you to understand the content and give you the time you need and I really value these lecturers. However, there are those who do not respond to emails, who have not put the effort into teaching and just read off slides and do not care to help once they are ‘off the clock’ even during working hours. Certain lecturers who have been complained about in many different modules and through feedback given by students have not made any effort to improve their teaching and complaints taken higher are rarely listened to. It has been frustrating as my course is the top in the country however sometimes it is really hard to believe this. I know that there is definitely so much potential for the course to be amazing due to the facilities available and those lecturers who really do go above and beyond. The lecturers who put low effort into their jobs could really learn a lot by listening to student feedback or seeing the effort their colleagues put into their students. I really hope this improves, as I believe Loughborough is a top university that cares about their students academically and mentally as there is a lot of support, however certain lecturers really let the standards fall unfortunately making a huge negative impact in the Loughborough experience and if I knew this before attending it would possibly change my decision to attend as education is the main priority when deciding where to spend a huge £9250 per year.

    Perfect Uni choice for me

Loughborough University is an excellent choice if you are looking for a campus-style location, small-town/semi-rural area. Great transport links for where it is in the country and lots of places to live (on and off-campus).
For freshers, it was so organised, loads of help settling in and a great atmosphere to make friends. Arguably the best hall selection to choose from, find out about them before and what suits you, your personality and preferences.
Obviously the best uni for sport, both competitive and non-competitive. A great place to stay healthy whilst having your best uni experience.
Nights out – so many to choose from, all different styles to fit what you prefer (both on and off-campus).
All-round great experience and wouldn’t have seen myself anywhere else for 4 years (the support for a placement year is incredible, a great place to help with industrial experience).
