Loughborough University has a very lively student life and the town is centered around students. Majority of the population at Loughborough is the students. Loughborough is a small town so everywhere you go, you will run into someone you know. The bartenders at the pub and student union, nearby cafes, restaurants, neighbors, etc, all students. Everything you need is within a 20 minute walking distance.
It may seem like Loughborough University is a boring university in the middle of nowhere but its the opposite! There are a variety of activities for students to get involved in such as volunteering, societies and networks, hall get togethers, nightlife, and of course sports! Loughborough is the best sports university in all of Europe. However, if you are not a sporty person, don’t be intimidated or afraid to apply because there are many opportunities for beginners and you don’t have to get into sports at all. You’d also be surprised by the amount of free time you’ll have to get involved in more activities.
If you love to party, there are 5 clubs in town including the Student Union with its weekly events. Nottingham and Leicester is also a half an hour train ride away.
There is always something interesting going on at Loughborough so you’ll never be bored. For example, Athletic Union initiations. However, if you are an international student and you are at Loughborough during winter, easter or summer break, it can get quite lonely.
There are 2 on campus gyms as well as 3 or 4 more gyms in town for those who like to maintain fitness. All the supermarkets sell a variety of high protein meals. The student union has a cafe, bubble tea shop, and a Spar. The campus shuttlebus is free inside the campus to get from one point to another because Loughborough university also has the largest campus in the UK. The library is huge with lots of resources. The town has multiple stores for shopping and every November the Charnborough council organises a funfair which is like a mini Winter Wonderland and lasts 3 days.
My experience at Loughborough has been amazing and I do not regret accepting my offer. Studying at Loughborough has changed me and being surrounded by students who are hard working and determined pushes me to be the best version of myself. I love the friends I made here and I wish my time here would go by more slowly.
