I really enjoyed taking psychology in Surrey. It was without a doubt a very different experience to what I would have in Portugal. The teachers were very close to us. I even ended up getting a placement on the recommendation of a teacher.
I think what sets Surrey apart from other universities is its connection to the industry. In Surrey all teachers are encouraged to maintain a link to the industry. Hence, everything we learn turns out to be useful in our professional life.
I think it is important to mention the care that the university has for the mental health of its students. During my first year an older student would always check in on me twice a week to make sure I was settling in well. This peer support ambassador was essential for me. It helped me to familiarize myself with the campus but more importantly it introduced me to societies and was very supportive of me in the most difficult times. I am very grateful to the university for all the support it has given me.
Forever Surrey 🙂

About the university, it is an amazing university with very good facilities, with lots of international students, lots of societies and clubs such as sports. You will never be alone and you will find something to do that you are fond of. It is also the most beautiful university I have seen especially the lake. Having nature in the university makes a difference when feeling nervous and anxious about exams or assignments. In general, I highly recommend this university!!! 🙂
I was surprisingly pleased with the warmth I was welcomed in Guildford, a small city with mostly rural views. I loved the diversity in nationality you see everywhere on campus, especially in teachers. It is nice to be able to contribute to classes knowing you won’t be judged for dialects, accents or language skills. The lessons are quite decent, not too complicated to understand and the staff helps you anytime. Overall, I am very pleased with Uni of Surrey!
View moreBeing a student at the University of Surrey was a unique experience. To begin with, the campus was so green with a wonderful lake where students used to hang out during the day but also at night. The University was student-oriented taking into consideration all the needs that any student would have, with a hard-working centre of wellbeing and a Students Union team, studying there you felt like you matter as a person and as a student. In terms of the course, I was extremely satisfied with the modules and the teachers and it is worth highlighting here that lecturers tried really hard to approach us as friends rather than as inferior students. Last but not least, being in a such multicultural University was a dream come true.
If you want to study in a multicultural and friendly place that looks like a magical forest with excellent delivery of lectures, then the University of Surrey is your place!
Overall had a positive experience with University of Surrey studying Psychology. The professors and lecturers are friendly, always happy to help and talk to you if you have any issues with the content. It is clear that they are happy to be at Surrey and teach their specialty. There are always improvements that can be done in all programmes and providing more detailed career advice and practical work, does not only apply to Psychology. However, other aspects of the University can generally be improved. Some important decisions are taken without considering the students’ opinions. For instance, the university recently signed a contract with a new company to run its buses throughout the town and our student campuses. After numerous complaints, however, the quality and timeliness (compared to the price) continue to be unreasonable. Furthermore, the prices of accommodation keep going up every year while the general outlook of the courts hasn’t been improved. The almost-expensive-as-London private housing in Guildford makes many students concerned and anxious they would have to earn extra money to pay their rent. Despite the luxurious price range in Guildford, most houses are old, moldy and do not meet the requirements that could be compared to their price counterparts in London. However, this is more of a problem to Guildford Borough Council rather than the University, as the university cannot alone do much about it. If you’re considering coming to Surrey though, be aware of this higher standard of living, as your degree may be at risk.
