    Invaluable industry knowledge.

The course gives a thorough insight into the future of our energy system, detailing upcoming technologies and reviewing the assets already available to us. Critical thinking is encouraged throughout via essay assignments in modules such as Energy Systems Analysis, Energy Resources and Policy and Sustainability. Technical knowledge is developed via technical assignments and tutorial classes in modules such as Electrical Power Systems. The Energy Modelling and Monitoring module allow students to develop highly sought-after computer modelling skills. Several electives are also available allowing students to further explore their curiosities within the field. The group project effectively challenges students to think for themselves in producing an output value for the industry. The thesis likewise gives students an opportunity to take control of their learning and explore their areas of interest under the tutelage of an esteemed supervisor.

Having now moved into the high voltage electricity infrastructure industry, I have found the lessons learned throughout this degree programme invaluable. Although the department’s transition to online learning (due to the pandemic) created challenges such as an increased workload due to zoom sessions being coupled with lecture videos, the content was sufficiently available to provide a lasting knowledge of sustainable engineering. I would recommend this course to anyone interested in a career in renewable energy.

Active students, great student life, interesting course!

As I am approaching the end of my 2nd year of my bachelors degree, it has now been clear to me how is the university life at University of Strathclyde. I would claim that glasgow is a more than decent city to study, since there are hundreds of facilities you can use. Additionally, the glasgow has around 4 universities and a couple of colleges so the whole city is packed with students. The university is very international, although my course specifically is not.

    Great university

One of the best in the Uk for mechanical engineering, the staff were very helpful and the facilities were up to date and had the newest technologies. The library was a nice place for private and group study, and the gym was nice and new

    Struggles for Internationals

I enjoyed the time I spent at this university thanks to the excellent academic and administrative staff.

However, the academic level for this course can be very confusing, with some modules offered jointly with undergraduate programmes or are repetitions of undergraduate modules, and others delving into advanced topics with little to no introduction with unclear lecture notes. This can be challenging for international students such as myself.

I also think that the induction sessions provided to international students are insufficient in providing a firm background on engineering sciences in the United Kingdom.

Furthermore, the courses outlined in the programme catalogue are not always available, which can be a disappointment if you had chosen to study there for a specific module/lecturer. You should also prepare to be disappointed if you have very high expectations in terms of marking and feedback.

Overall, if you want to specialise in a certain area, I would suggest other programmes. However, if you want a good overview, and don’t mind a few sleepless nights, I highly recommend it!

The program focuses on both theoretical and applied studies. You have the opportunity to use many software programs which is common in the industry. The faculty ensures laboratory studies in hydrodynamics. The academic staff is helpful and kind.

    Very good University

My experience in Strathclyde was very satisfactory. The learning policy is very practical and oriented to what is useful in a work environment.
Every subject had a team project with a huge impact in the final mark.

    Really specific

It was really practical although I missed more sports-related content. After coursing Sports Design Engineering, I would recommend doing any other type of product design as it provides you with a wider range of career opportunities.

    Good practical experience

Through a number of different courses and projects, I acquired practical experience in the product engineering and manufacturing industries which was really useful in my working life later on.
The engineering faculties are not as strong as the business one. However, there is a good balance between educational fees and the content of the courses.
Overall I would rate it as a good experience.
