First of all, Eskisehir Technical University doesn’t feel like a university if you completely separate it from Anadolu University. We don’t have any cultural activities, fortunately we can attend to the ones in Anadolu University. These kind of details are not that important of course since we just separated from Anadolu University, but they are still heartbreaking. As a computer engineering student, I am definitely not pleased with my lecturers. Even the good ones have to teach things out of their interests, because there are no other people to to it. This effects them and us. We usually prefer studying at home to attending to our lectures. My other problem with lecturers is that they usually don’t speak in English. And I find this really rude against the foreign students. Also, most of the ones who speak in English are only reading slides. Even as a student I’m trying really hard to develop my English and pronunciation. Although Eskisehir is a perfect city for students to live, we usually have to spend our times in our campus because it’s a bit far away from the city center and busses aren’t enough. When we have spare time, like three or four hours, we want to go to a cafe but we can’t. This might sound bad but it’s actually like that because we have an airport in our school. That’s why we have to be away from the city center. I may not be happy with engineering faculty teachers but Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics is really good and we are famous with that. I love that our campus is not huge, but still big enough for us. We don’t have a very very good looking campus but we do have some interesting sculptures around buildings.
View moreI have been in Eskisehir for 4 years and I am studying at Computer Engineering for 3 years. I think I have enough information about city, social life and life oppurtunities.
I came from Ankara which is capital town of the Turkey and I went another big cities in Turkey such as İstanbul, İzmir. I can easily say that Eskisehir is the best city for students in Turkey. After getting used to city, you can find many social activities easily. In addition, If you are not familiar to living alone you can find many places to eat.
Compared to all city facilities, my thoughts about the university are not very nice.
If I need to start good side of the university, campus life is well. The students are very comfortable to socialize. Second one, the travel time is OK. It takes 15-20 min from the city centre. There are some bus routes which goes different locations in the city. Such as K4,M4, 63 or 55..
In addition the refectory is pretty good. You can eat three meals a day which cost is 1.25TL for each of all.
But transportation is not good although transport time is short. There is only one bus from the city centre which is kırmızı 4. Somedays you might wait more than 20 minitus.
I would say another problem is education. Education is not bad at the university but it’s inadequate. The prep school can’t eduacate sufficiently English languate. So If you can’t speak English you might have problems when you start the engineering education.
According the schulude, education language is English in my department. But some lecturers speak every time. Except those other lecturers, they have a good pronunciation which can be understandable for the foreign students.

View moreOverall, the university is OK. The campus is a huge one, people are open-minded and really nice. But you might go mad with the transportation to the campus. The only good part of the transportation would be the travel time. It only takes 15 minutes to arrive at the campus from the city centre. There’s only one bus line travels to the campus from the city centre and it is full most of the time. In the mornings, there are buses every 5 minutes but if you wake up half an hour before the class, it is impossible to attend the class punctually. I study computer engineering in ESTU and education is average. So many assignments, projects, quizzes almost every week.
All the classes are supposed to be in English but some lecturers do not speak English at all during the classes. Most them speak fluent English and deliver the lectures in English but some of the lecturers are speaking in Turkish all the time. Though, all the class materials (presentations, notes provided by lecturers etc.) are in English. Besides, abroad opportunities are amazing. There are 21 different universities across Europe to apply for Erasmus in the computer engineering department. Also, there are many other exchange programs to go to Asia and America.
The refectory is almost for free. It costs 1.25 TL which is around 0.21€ per meal. It provides breakfast and lunch. And for dinner, you can use the refectory which is located in Anadolu University. There’s a ring bus M4 which travels from ESTU to Anadolu University and it takes 10-15 minutes so it is pretty simple to travel between campuses.
