IE University’s enduring success can be traced not just to its academics but also the people that make it great such as the diverse international members across continents like Finland and Singapore as part of their close-knit community whose talents flourish under supportive professors expecting high standards culminating in ample engagements outside classrooms for interested parties.

The communications program at IE is extremely focused on marketing. Which I guess makes sense because it is part of the Business School. First year has some classes focusing on creativity but from there it’s just corporate, advertising and marketing which is a bit sad. There is no deep dive into any of the creative realms – they try to cover a lot of different topics but do so very superficially. I finished my third year feeling lost and without deep knowledge in any field (because I don’t like marketing). Some few professors were REALLY good and some most are just experts in the industry and cannot teach at all.

I was a student at IE during the 2020-2021 class year right after the major lockdown was lifted. IE was one of my best decisions, period. The faculty was really world-class and had amazing access to real-life professionals in very key positions in different sectors. I met very talented people from around the world and now share an amazing international network in the real estate business.

IE has some quality professors while others were generally underwhelming in comparison to their impressive credentials. Just because someone is very knowledgeable in a subject doesn’t necessarily mean he/she can teach it well, from what I’ve seen. But if you’re interested in entrepreneurship or want to expand your network to a more international crowd, this school is a great fit. I have made great lifelong friends and connections and learned a lot about other industries and cultures. Communication from program administration can be poor at times, but overall, they all try their best to be understanding and helpful.

The school has amazing services and is surrounded by international culture. The lectures provided are up to date and world-class. The school cares about the opinions of the students and also has several clubs activities.

My degree is very fulfilling. I study Politics, Philosophy, Law, and Economics. Given the multiple subjects, there is a sufficient amount of academic intensity however it is very manageable. There is ample extra reading provided for students who want to investigate further. There is an adequate balance between syllabus driven learning and self-interest driven learning.
One area that I believe IE university lacks is socio-economic diversity. While the university is decently ethically and culturally diverse, given that it is a private university, the majority of students come from rather wealthy backgrounds. This makes it difficult for scholarship students to fully integrate. Additionally, this is reflected in the teachings. Most teachers are from Spain and almost all case studies discussed in my degree are only in relation to Europe. As a non-European, I find it hard to follow and contribute to conversations.

Words can not describe a quarter of the experience I’ve had, and still have, as an exchange student spending the last semester before her graduation at IE. IE is everything a Business School should be: IE is bold, IE is creative, IE pushes you to be the best version of yourself. IE is innovative, IE is caring, and IE feels like home more than home itself. The programs are both very well thought of and very well achieved, the professors are what competencies should be, the infrastructure automatically merges you into the business world, the student life is everything that makes your 20s the best decade of your life, and Madrid is what dreams are made of. Never in a million years would I have imagined my experience with IE to be this self-fulfilling, enriching, and most importantly: natural.

A blend of an introduction to the business and political world, this degree develops a critical mind through interactive learning, discussions and lectures from professors of various backgrounds. This course widens your view of the world and constantly keeps up with current situations and the latest technologies so students can keep applying knowledge to the evolving world. Teachers are passionate, professional and what makes them so special is that they all have a link or personal experience with the content they are teaching, personalising the course making it much more memorable and engaging for students. One factor that is different from other college experiences is that 70% of attendance is required in a class, meaning if a student misses a certain amount of classes-they fails the class. I found this rule quite strange as entering university life is a new level in adulthood and we students should be responsible for passing the course and learning, not teachers. Attendance rules being implemented feels high school and as college students, we do think it is unusual and harsh. Moving to Spain and having to adapt to a new culture is tough on students but the community and lifestyle are very flexible and relaxed. I do believe IE is less work-intensive than other major universities in the UK, France or US however this gives students a chance to inter-take in many more activities and projects. A variety of clubs and activities are offered- such as music, art, horse riding, boxing etc. One improvement I would offer for IE is expanding their facilities on campus- for example in the Segovia campus, having a gym and music rooms would be amazing. Labs and seminars given by very influential people are available too which is a great opportunity for students to experience and learn from different fields of study.
IE has amazing connections with various companies such as make a wish and linked-in where we have the opportunity to work on their team during lab periods which makes IE extremely resourceful. Furthermore, only this school year (2021) 78% of the new students were international meaning you will meet people from all around and make useful connections – essential for a business school. I would recommend IE to students wishing to study business in an international environment, who are outgoing and focusing on trying many new experiences and making good connections. As mentioned before, I wouldn’t call IE an academically intense school, nevertheless, there is no doubt that you will find a passion and a successful career by going to IE.
