Public Administration: My Experience at Fort Hare

Campus Experience: During my time at the Bisho Campus, I immersed myself in the vibrant academic environment between 2012-2017. The campus buzzed with intellectual discussions, student activities, and a sense of purpose. The lecture halls became my second home, and the library was my sanctuary. I engaged in thought-provoking debates, collaborated with fellow students, and soaked up knowledge from every corner.

Inspiring Lecturers: Professors Ijeoma and Dr. Mle left an indelible mark on my academic journey. Their passion for public administration ignited my curiosity. They didn’t just teach; they mentored, challenged, and encouraged us to think critically. Their commitment to excellence pushed me beyond my comfort zone, and I am forever grateful for their guidance.

Navigating Challenges: Like any educational path, mine had its share of hurdles. Research, in particular, tested my patience. The elusive questionnaires and delayed responses from participants frustrated me. Yet, these obstacles taught me resilience. I learned to adapt, revise my approach, and persevere. In hindsight, those challenges shaped my character and strengthened my resolve.

Legacy of the Nation:
The University of Fort Hare is not just an educational institution or a hub of academic learning but a part of the foundation stones of South African history. Its origin goes back to 1916, thus qualifying it as one of the oldest universities in the nation. Many generations of students have passed through these gates to unfold the really special tapestry of progressive South Africa.
Struggle and Liberation:
Nelson Mandela, the icon of the anti-apartheid struggle, had also been a law student at Fort Hare. His stay at that institution set in motion his worldview of justice. The university became the frontline institution in anti-apartheid activism, training, and raising leaders who would later bring an end to the oppressive regime in South Africa
Unity in Diversity:
The multicultural environment in Fort Hare depicts the diversity of South Africa. Different cadre students coming from diverse backgrounds—ethnic, linguistic, and traditional—study, argue, and work together. It is a picture of the microcosm situation showing the nation’s strength and oneness in the face of adversity.
Academic Excellence and Social Change:
Beyond certificates and degrees, Fort Hare inculcates values. It regulates and teaches students that education is not only about advancing one’s self but is a catalyst for changing society. This is carried forth into communities by graduates, changing them for the better.
Continuing Impact:
As you walk out the gates, remember simply that you partake in our legacy. In government, civil society, and private enterprise alike, your education informs the transformed South African narrative. Embrace it with pride!!
