Polytechnic University of Timisoara (reviews)

By 1970 the institution was made up of 5 faculties and educated mainly engineers. This same year the school received the right to be called the Polytechnic Institute of Timisoara. In 1991 the name was changed again to the Technical University of Timisoara, and again in 1995 the name was changed; this time to the “Politehnica” University of Timisoara.

Studies at UPT

Bachelors, masters, and PhD courses are run by the university and are divided into the following faculties: Architecture and City Planning, Automation and Computers, Civil Engineering, Communication Sciences, Electrical and Power Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering, Hunedoara Engineering, Industrial Chemistry and Environmental Engineering, Management in Production and Transportation, and Mechanical Engineering.

Around 13,500 students attend the institution, taught by almost 700 teachers.

Aside from teaching, the university is a well-respected centre for research both in Romania and internationally. As a result of this research work the university produces scientific papers, patents, and products on a professional stage.

Student Life at UPT

There are 16 student hostels on campus which have the capacity to house 6500 students. There is also a medical centre in operation at the university for students, as well as a student cafeteria and a student Information Centre to aid with lots of student needs.

In their free time, students may take part in sport in the institution’s 2 modern sports complexes, or in one of the Student Organisations at the university.
