Located in the Romanian capital of Bucharest, the idea for the Romanian-American University came about in 1991 when Professor Ion Smedescu Ph.D believed the city would benefit from its establishment. Professor Smedescu was the founder of the university and also president of the Romanian-American Foundation for the Promotion of Education and Culture. The establishment of the university aimed and succeeded to bring higher education principles from the United States to Romania such as ‘honest spirit of competition,’ ‘challenging others and yourself,’ and ‘efficient organisation of activity.’
Academics at the Romanian-American University
Degrees are available at undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD levels at the Romanian-American University.
There are six academic schools at the university; five teaching Economics and the sixth Law. These schools are: the School of Domestic and International Business, Banking and Finance, School of Computer Science for Business Management, School of Management Marketing, School of Domestic and International Tourism Economy, School of European Economic Studies, and the School of Law.
Since 2011 the institution has offered two undergraduate degree programmes that are taught completely in English; International Business and Computer Science for Economics.
In addition, a few times each term extracurricular courses are offered by the university and are taught by both American and International professors at no extra cost.
Students may also complete a study abroad period in one of the university’s many European partner institutions such as Lapland University of Applied Sciences in Finland, Carinthia University of Applied Sciences in Austria, and Hedmark University College in Norway.
Student Life
Most students on campus speak English, so even as an international student you are sure to feel welcome at the Romanian-American University. Also as a visiting student, the university recommends that you live in the on-campus accommodation which is in close proximity to the university buildings.
Students may partake in an array of cultural and sporting activities in their spare time suh as music and theatre shows and special seminars hosted by guest speakers. The Students’ Council also organises lots of activities for students such as proms, ecological campaigns, and sports competitions.
