Overall, my experience at the university was very positive. The academic program was relevant and comprehensive, with strong emphasis on both research and student involvement in academic and associative life. The constant presence of research opportunities greatly enriched the learning journey. However, it would be beneficial if elective courses were available from the first year, allowing students to pursue more individualized learning paths.

This university allows for the participation in several projects and academic groups that add to the academic experience, is full of tradition and history which create a higher integration in the academic community and further learning experiences not only in the field of studies

I attended the Psychology course at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Coimbra (FPCEUC) and I consider the training to be, in general, very solid and of high quality. The teaching staff is competent and approachable, and the academic environment is stimulating, with a strong emphasis on research and critical thinking.
However, I think the articulation between the theoretical and practical aspects could be more balanced, especially at the undergraduate level, where the practical component is still somewhat limited. This integration is, however, better achieved at the master’s level, where the application of knowledge is more evident.
Overall, I recommend the experience — FPCEUC provides a demanding and enriching education in a unique university setting like that of Coimbra.

I really like the University of Coimbra. Since it’s in a relatively small city, all the faculties are relatively close to each other, and it’s possible to meet all sorts of people. In addition, there are also countless opportunities for extracurricular activities.

Best classes are Social Psychology, Neurosciences and everything related to Clinical Psychology.

Studying at the University of Coimbra was one of the best experiences of my academic life. I studied Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, and I loved both the classroom environment and everything about university life in Coimbra.
What I liked most was the unique academic environment, steeped in tradition but also full of opportunities to grow outside the classroom. There are countless extracurricular activities and projects to participate in—from student groups, tuna groups, AAC chapters, to junior companies. All of this makes the experience much more complete and enriching.
What I liked least was that some classes and professors were a bit monotonous, and some of the material was outdated, with handouts containing virtually the same information from years ago. However, this doesn’t detract from the overall value of the education or the university experience.
I would definitely recommend the University of Coimbra. The academic and personal experience you offer is truly special—I wouldn’t have made any other choice.

I completed my bachelor’s degree in Psychology and I’m now finishing my master’s in Neuropsychology at FPCEUC. Most of the professors are really nice, and I’ll actually miss some of them. However, I do think the bachelor’s program could be more practical. We only get real, hands-on experience with the different areas of psychology once we start our master’s (and even then, you can only choose one internship in a specific area), which feels a bit late. It would be much more helpful to have that kind of practical exposure earlier on, so we could explore different fields and make a more informed choice when selecting our master’s specialization.
