It is a university that is highly affected by politics and tribalism. Initially, the university had a well functioning management that was ousted by tribal politicians. They then embezzled the funds and now the school is almost collapsing. There are regular strikes by the school’s staff because they haven’t been paid for months!
There’s is insecurity in the school, lectures are affected by the strikes which increase the number of years you take to complete a course. This of course is not favourable to many students as it causes a strain in their finances. The education in other schools like the school of arts is not quality because of few lecturers.
Likes? It is located at a place where life is generally cheap.
Would I recommend it? No.

Like many students, I appreciated the university’s strong academic foundation, affordable tuition compared to private institutions, and the opportunity to study alongside peers from across the region.
However, as with many large public universities, some students note challenges such as overcrowded classes and occasional administrative delays. Overall, Moi University provides a well-rounded academic experience with a balance of quality education, cultural exposure, and professional growth opportunities, making it a strong option for students seeking affordable higher education in Kenya.

Moi University is generally an efficient training institution that meets its core objectives in technical student training and imparting the required life skills. The institution however has an inactive careers department that fails to act as a link between the trainees and the work industry. The department should organise annual career fairs and invite key industry players through the schools extensive alumni network. This will help the trainees to have a better understanding of how the work place is structured and to involve them in shaping the workplace of tomorrow.
