A Balanced Perspective on Education and Community

I recently attended Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, and there were aspects that I both liked and disliked during my time there. On the positive side, I was impressed by the university’s dedicated and knowledgeable faculty who were always available for guidance and support. Additionally, the campus offered a wide range of extracurricular activities and clubs, fostering a vibrant social environment. However, one drawback was the lack of available scholarships or financial aid opportunities, which made tuition costs a significant concern for many students. Despite this, if you value a strong academic community and a robust social scene and are financially prepared, I would recommend Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore for its educational and personal growth opportunities.

Brief summary of the personal five-year experience in UCSC

As we know, the great limitation of the Italian academic world is represented by the frontality and the nationalism of its teaching. An attitude that often leads students to limit, on the one hand, the exchange of information between students themselves and teachers and, on the other, to make them aware of excessive information that is scarcely reusable in a working context. In my five years at UCSC – three of them in the language faculty and two in the political science faculty – I can say that this has rarely happened.
In the three years, following the Arabic and English classes, the teachers followed us, even though the latter were numerous in terms of students. In the two-year master’s degree, in political science for international cooperation, I dealt with various subjects, of a specialist and more generic topics, of a political, historical, economic and sociological nature. After Erasmus in Portugal – which here does not have the immodest purpose of addressing the question in full – I feel I can confirm the quality of the University’s teaching and of the teachers I got to know.
Finally, I spend a few words on the present. UCSC is completely inefficient in providing support to graduate students on their way to careers as far as I am concerned to say here. I believe that the service, poor and incomplete, like various internal offices of the University, can be considerably enhanced in order to reach the standards of the great London universities or some European ones.
In my work, I do not deal with cooperation, although I am in daily contact with international events, geopolitics and geoeconomics. In this sense, often, the wide (but not chaotic) knowledge I received in UCSC allows me to deal with disparate business issues.

Political Science does not prepare for the world of work

I attended the Catholic University of Milan and, in particular, my field of study was Political Science. I would like to underline that some subjects such as Political Science, Labor Law and Occupational Psychology were very interesting and the teachers very qualified. It was a satisfaction to be able to pass the related exams and they certainly enriched my cultural background and gave me food for thought to deepen the topics and be able to relate to other people interested in the subjects I have indicated.
However, I would like to add that the Diploma in Political Science did not help me for my job and even less for my professional career. The reason that the degree I have chosen is too generic and has not allowed me to acquire operational knowledge that can be immediately used in the job market.
It was necessary to attend other specialization courses to qualify professionally and find an opportunity that would give me satisfaction.
I would go back I would choose engineering because it is a much more practical degree address and more connected to the world of work and the skills required by many companies.

    Multiculturalism and Communication skills

Studying languages for international relations is a constant challenge. Studying languages is challenging and often you convince yourself that you know all the rules and new ones come up. From the point of view of International Relations, knowing and understanding the dynamics of today’s world makes me feel a step closer to knowing how to face today’s challenges.

    Great and international university

Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore is a private university based in the center of Milan, which makes it easy to access through all types of public transport. Even though the tuition fee (3500-8700€ depending on the family income) might seem quite large, the university provides great scholarships to help you with that. The program I attend is great as it includes not just the traditional theoretical approach, but also addresses the current political events and problems in the world. It is a program formed mainly by international students who come from all over the world. The student life in the city is great as there are a lot of night clubs and places to have fun at. The only disadvantage I’d mention is the quite expensive living standard.
