I think DCU as a university is great, its truly a pleasure studying here. The atmosphere on the three campuses respectively is something unlike other universities. Yet it is a true representation of the Irish education system, it has its pitfalls, especially in regards to my course, Applied Languages and Translation Studies. While the ability to take on up to two European/Asian languages is considerable for students, the transition from secondary school language learning to university standard learning can be challenging for some. I think of it less as a fault on the university’s part and more as an oppourtunity to revise some specifications within the courses’ structure. I’d recommend the addition of a module focusing on building confidence in language learners and developing their language learning skills.
