studied Chemistry at the University of Rostock and overall, I had a valuable academic experience. The programme helped me deepen my knowledge in organic chemistry, catalysis and laboratory work. I especially appreciated the research-oriented environment and the opportunity to work independently on scientific projects.
As an international student in a German-taught programme, social integration was sometimes challenging. Since the programme was not international, I often felt rather alone and it was not always easy to connect with classmates. This made the experience emotionally difficult at times.
However, I really appreciated the support and understanding of the professors. They were aware that studying in German can be challenging for international students. In many cases, it was possible to take exams in English, and students could ask questions whenever something was unclear. This made the academic environment more accessible and supportive.
Despite the challenges, I learned a lot both academically and personally. The programme helped me become more independent, resilient and confident in a German academic environment. Overall, I would recommend the University of Rostock to motivated students who are ready for a demanding scientific education.

I am an international PhD student at the University of Rostock and joined LIKAT in September last year. My experience so far has been positive overall. The university offers a good research environment, especially for students interested in chemistry and catalysis research. At LIKAT, I had the opportunity to work with modern equipment and interact with researchers from different backgrounds, which helped me develop both scientifically and personally.
Rostock is also a calm and beautiful city, especially for students who prefer a quieter environment compared to larger German cities. The cost of living is relatively manageable, and the Baltic Sea atmosphere makes the city unique.
As a foreign student, adapting at the beginning was sometimes challenging, especially with bureaucracy and language barriers, but the university community and colleagues were generally supportive. I also appreciated the international environment in the research institutes .
