A lot of variety. A lot of fun

Overall, the university itself is what I expected, INTENSE. If you go to the Mississauga Campus like I do then you won’t have much of a social life. However, what it lacks in fun, it makes up for in opportunity. Pick a program that you like, you’ll find that the profs you get are quite skilled at their craft, although not all of them will be winners.

I’m a bit biased, but I’d say the digital enterprise management (DEM) program is one of the best the university offers. The program includes extensive courses on coding and digital marketing.

The university itself though can be rather tough to go through, especially in the first year. You need to get yourself a nice supportive circle of friends or family. Good luck!

    Smaller campus but impactful experience

Uoft at Mississauga Campus is a smaller yet focused environment to its students.

The program ranking varies on its difficulty. Management and sociology ranked at 3 being limited spots. Environmental management and science are ranked 2 as you must meet its requirements to be admitted in.

They may offer certain co-op positions but are also competitive and may be unpaid or unpaid depending on the course code that the co-op position is associated with. However, you will gain hands on experience as long as in class learning.

The smaller size campus allows students to connect to one another more meaning, easier to make friends but as well to get to other classes. The campus advocates being environmental friendly, as the campus uses and creates its own renewable energy and does not sell any plastic bottles as a step towards sustainability.

    First Year Experience

After completing my first year at The University of Toronto, I can confidently say that I had an impeccable experience. The campus had a wide variety of activities available as well as clubs that were easily accessible to all students. The University of Toronto creates a warm and friendly environment which allows all incoming students to feel welcome.

    Criminology Bachelors

Engaging curriculum taught by well known professors who are extremely accommodating and who enjoy helping students achieve. Personally, my academic accommodations were always upheld and professors were available to talk with me about future plans.

    Diversity and Experience

University of Toronto, as many of us have heard is a university with a lot of opportunities. In my opinion, the thing that sets this university apart is the acceptance rate and diversity. Being the top 20 colleges in the world, U of T sits around 43% acceptance rate all around the globe. Everyone is catered to and no one is discriminate against. There are a bunch of accessibility services and accommodation with a bunch of job opportunities as well which help in keeping you busy. However, one thing many people dislike is the pressure and the amount of work you have to put in to succeed. However, it has it benefits as well since it prepares you for the later pressures in life.

    Post Pandemic University Life

Through the transition between high school and university, I had no idea what to expect when I stepped foot on the university campus. But to my surprise, it was one of the easiest things I have ever done. Even in the time of a pandemic, there was so much ease provided by all the upper-year students and the faculty at U of T that the transition into university, one of the most difficult things that one can think of, was ultimately turned into one of the best experiences I have ever had. The university, the professors, and the community as a whole are one of the kindest and most warm-hearted people I have met in a really long time. U of T has been my dream school from the moment I chose that I wanted to go to university. Of course, everyone, including myself, would hear about the discouraging reviews about U of T, and sure for a while that did scare me off coming here, but all the negative reviews about how stressful it is and how you shouldn’t come here if you value your mental health truly are not accurate. This university has proven to me that if you put your best foot forward and try your best, you have the best chance at getting grades you never thought you could achieve. No university is easy, and no matter where you go, there are always going to be challenges along the way, but U of T has been able to show how much they care and how much they are willing to change for their students and staff to get the best experience a university could offer. So my advice, is don’t listen too much to the negatives, try your best and no matter what university, U of T or not, you go to, you will achieve all that you have ever wished to achieve.

    place with ultimate possibilities

UofT encourages students to study different disciplines. Beyond academic, there’re also great opportunities to get involved in the student life. However, it’s not a place to boost your undergraduate GPA. And you need extra effort to reach out to professors and academic advisors since the student body is huge.

Pretty much what you expect from any university

Came for the prestige and stayed because….there’s not that much to complain about. Of course, that doesn’t mean UofT is *the* perfect school. In my 2 years of uni experience, I’ve witnessed burnouts, protests, meltdowns, etc, but overall my experience has been alright. I cannot speak for STEM majors, but in the humanities, it seems like there you can still maintain a good balance between your personal life and school life. The workload is tedious, but it hasn’t gotten to the point where I couldn’t finish my work on time and had to take points off for late submission. The worst-case scenario for me has been asking for extensions and typically professors will grant free extensions unless no-free-extension policies were written in the syllabus.
As for the professors, there’s not much to review as the quality of teaching and modalities of learning varies with each individual. Most of the professors I’ve had have been helpful and nice. A few were questionable in my eyes but adored by other students, there are also a few whose classes I thought were alright but others hated. Again, it depends on the person and I would say it is the case for any other institution in the world.
The campus location is awesome, though. The downtown campus is both accessible and beautiful. Groceries, shopping, restaurants, movie theatres, and other sorts of entertainment are all within walking distance or a short ride by the TTC. The heart of Toronto offers so much entertainment and on-campus housing is convenient for students to actively participate in the school’s events.
Overall, I think it’s a pretty good place to spend your undergraduate life if you seek to be an academic, but I will say it comes with a bit of pressure so make sure to condition yourself for a fast-paced working environment before coming.

    Social Sciences at UofT

I had a great experience at UofT especially being in the VicOne Program which provided a small class experience in such a big school, so definitely apply for that if you’re able. I got super close with my VicOne classmates and they were all so helpful and kind throughout my first year. It also made it a lot easier to make friends. The professors are also very nice and understanding and want to help you do well (although they are pretty hard markers compared to other schools). I came into my first year being very scared about going to UofT because of its reputation, and maybe the STEM side is different, but as a Social Science student, I had a great experience and thoroughly enjoyed what I was learning, my professors, and my peers.
