The BHSc program has definitely improved since its inception. Unfortunately, as it is still new, there are still many hiccups (e.g., new courses with unclear expectations). There is little guidance about potential opportunities. This program is not ideal for medical school applicants for the following reasons:
(1) It is time consuming and you may not have time for extracurriculars/volunteering
(2) It is difficult to form relationships with busy professors and you will mainly be dealing with TAs.
(3) Prerequisite courses are not built into the program and you will have to use up electives to fulfill them)
(4) Queen’s BHSc is completely separate from its medical school (i.e., compared with McMaster BHSc, where a lot of its students are accepted into its own medical school).
Future applicants – beware of this and choose wisely.
