    Supportive environment and strong learning

Overall, my experience has been very positive. The courses are engaging and encourage critical thinking, especially in programs like Human Rights and Social Justice. Professors are generally supportive and approachable, and there are many opportunities to get involved in student life and community initiatives. One thing I appreciate is the diversity on campus, which creates a more inclusive and open learning environment. There are also many resources available for students, both academically and socially. One downside is that some administrative processes can be slow or unclear at times, which can be frustrating when trying to get quick answers. Overall, I would recommend this university, especially for students who are interested in social sciences and want to be part of an engaged and active student community.

    Supportive Professors, Some Campus Challenges

Carleton University’s Sociology doctoral program has excellent faculty and professors who are genuinely invested in students’ learning and success. They are approachable, thoughtful, and willing to provide guidance and feedback, which makes navigating complex courses much easier. I’ve always felt supported both academically and professionally, and the professors create an environment where questions and discussion are encouraged.

On the other hand, there are some practical challenges. Parking on campus can be frustrating, especially during peak hours, and finding convenient spots can be difficult to find. Food options on campus are also limited at certain times, so planning ahead is sometimes necessary. Despite these minor inconveniences, I would still recommend Carleton for anyone looking for a strong academic program with professors who truly care about their students.

    Well-Rounded Curriculum at Carleton

As a student in the Law and Psychology program at Carleton University, I’ve had an incredibly enriching academic experience so far. The professors are approachable and genuinely invested in student success, often integrating real-world examples into lectures, which keeps the learning both practical and engaging.

What truly stands out is the balance between theoretical foundations and opportunities to apply knowledge through case studies, group projects, and interactive discussions. The university also offers numerous student-led initiatives, wellness programs, and support services that contribute to a positive and inclusive campus atmosphere.

Whether you’re looking to explore career paths in law, mental health, or public policy, this program equips you with the analytical skills and social awareness necessary for the real world. I would definitely recommend it to anyone seeking a well-rounded education with plenty of room for personal and academic growth.

    My POV: Carleton University

I started my BA in Social Work at Carleton in 2020. I was one of those students that spent my first 2 years totally online! Obviously, covid was a difficult time for everyone, and that exacerbated the difficulties of starting university because providing guidance online to someone who’s never gone to university before is hard. I didn’t have an orientation, or a frosh week, and didn’t meet anybody until the third year! However, things are definitely better now.

Carleton’s campus is huge, with lots of fun places to sit, several places to grab some food or a snack, cafes, you name it! I quite enjoy using the gym on campus, although it is usually super busy! It’s a decent size with lots of equipment, and it’s a great place to meet people on campus. There are clubs (although I haven’t joined any) and lots of events at Ollie’s (the school restaurant/bar that turns into a club some nights). The classrooms are also quite nice, and when a class isn’t going on, they’re a great place to sit and get some work done.

In terms of profs, obviously, my experience is a little bit biased because I’m only in social work, but what I will say is that it can be overwhelming! Carleton is not a university where you can just slack and pass a course. Participation is usually marked and monitored, and the expectations for assignments are high! There are opportunities for placements/co-ops for credits depending on your program, and lots of jobs you can get on campus as well.

Overall, now that it’s not all online and I’ve been able to get the full university experience, I have enjoyed it way more. I hope you enjoy your Carleton experience too! 🙂

    Amazing

So far my experience at Carleton University is great. My professors are extremely effective at teaching and helpful when I request extra help and time for assignments, the campus is pretty easy to navigate and the tunnels are an added bonus to avoid the winter weather.

    Highlights

My opinions about this University is that overall my experience was interesting because at first I felt like I did not have a place to fit in. Later, I enrolled into residency and had a chance to connecting with a lot of people which made my experience worth it. What I disliked was I needed support regarding my wellness, but there was little no help as the support websites wouldn’t work. What I liked was my program as its very specific and it’s my passion it made me more focused because I am learning about what I love. I would recommend this University to others as it has loads of extracurriculars that were tied in with my degree which I’ve gained experience in.
