Hasselt University is an exceptional choice for science and engineering students. The relatively small size of the university allows for personalized supervision, which facilitates interaction between students and professors. The laboratories are well equipped, and the courses are often oriented towards practical applications, which is very enriching. However, the organization of the courses could be more flexible to adapt to the needs of international students. The city of Hasselt is charming and offers a quiet environment for studying, with many cultural activities nearby. For those looking for a solid education and a friendly atmosphere, I highly recommend this university.
View moreI chose Hasselt University because of the unique joint Master in Energy Engineering Technology with KU Leuven—one of the few English-taught programs in Belgium that truly bridges academic theory with hands-on industry experience. Working with real projects and cutting-edge labs like EnergyVille has been incredibly rewarding, and the professors’ close ties to the energy sector bring real-world relevance into the classroom. Adjusting to a new education system and settling into life in Belgium wasn’t always easy—language barriers and paperwork were challenging at first—but the supportive environment, approachable staff, and friendly city of Hasselt made it easier to adapt. Looking back, the mix of practical learning, strong academic support, and a welcoming international atmosphere has made this a truly valuable experience.
View moreMy Erasmus semester at Hasselt was quite an experience. From the very beginning, the onboarding process was as smooth as it could have been. Everything felt well-structured, organized, and easy to navigate, which made settling into a new university and a new environment much easier.
The professors were kind, approachable, and genuinely invested in making sure that we, as students, understood the subjects.
Beyond academics, things like the Student Hotspot, university events, symposiums, and other activities made student life in Hasselt much more lively and happening. There was always something happening outside the classroom, which made the Erasmus experience feel much more complete.
The campus itself is beautiful, and I especially enjoyed spending the summer months in Hasselt. Looking back, it was a memorable semester -not only academically, but also because of the people, experiences, and moments that came with it.
