Hi everyone!
I am currently a fourth-year, second-semester student in the B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering program at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST). Based on my personal experience, I believe that the Mechanical Engineering program at AUST provides a great environment for academic learning, problem-solving, research, and personal development.
Engineering is fundamentally about solving problems, and throughout my time at AUST, I have worked on various academic projects that have significantly strengthened my problem-solving and analytical skills. Our graduates are also making their mark in diverse fields, from the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) to multinational companies such as Forbes Marshall and BYD.
One of the program’s greatest strengths is its faculty. We have faculty members with PhDs from leading universities in the USA, UK, Australia, and Europe. Many are actively involved in research and provide opportunities for motivated students to explore their research interests. If you are interested in fluid mechanics, thermofluids, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), or materials science, AUST has faculty members under whom you can develop your research skills and pursue your interests.
Our alumni are also pursuing MS, PhD, and postdoctoral opportunities at universities in the USA, including Virginia Tech, Iowa State University, Johns Hopkins University, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, and the University of Texas at Dallas, among others.
Another exciting development is the establishment of the AUST Applied Simulation and Modeling Lab (AASML), an online-based research lab where we collaborate on research projects and explore computational approaches to engineering problems. You can visit the lab’s page to learn more about our activities and ongoing research.
I would encourage prospective students to explore the official AUST website and the Mechanical Engineering faculty profiles to learn more about the program, faculty expertise, and research opportunities.
Overall, from my experience in academics, research, and personal development, I have found Mechanical Engineering at AUST to be a great place to learn, grow, and prepare for future opportunities. Like any program, the opportunities you gain will depend significantly on your own motivation, initiative, and willingness to learn.
View moreThe curriculum is well-structured, updated, and relevant to current industry standards. The laboratory facilities are decent, although there is definitely room for improvement.
The professors are knowledgeable and highly qualified, with many holding PhD degrees from prestigious universities around the world. However, one thing I personally dislike is that newly appointed lecturers are sometimes assigned to teach core mechanical engineering courses, which I believe should ideally be handled by more experienced faculty members.
Research opportunities are somewhat limited, primarily because the department does not offer a postgraduate program in Mechanical Engineering. Despite this, many undergraduate students are actively involved in impressive research projects and have successfully published papers.
The student community is diverse, with individuals pursuing different goals, including research, higher studies, industry jobs, and entrepreneurship. The key is to find the right group of peers who share your interests and ambitions. Being surrounded by motivated people can make a significant difference in your university experience.
