Today we compare two French business schools, namely the Paris School of Business (PSB) and the Montpellier Business School (MBS) based on the EDUopinions comments left by their students.

Montpellier Business School may so far have only four comments on its EDUopinions page, but this does not diminish the impressive fact that these observations contain no negative parts. Here is a look at the complimentary things students have to say about MBS.

One of the most frequently mentioned positives about the school is its teachers. EDUopinions commenters write how they find their teachers ‘well trained’, ‘well qualified’ and helpful, such as this MBS student.

Another common compliment is the diversity on campus. Students tell us of the high number of exchange students at the institute and how good a college MBS is in which to be an exchange student, especially this EDUopinions commenter.

MBS students on EDUopinions also add that at the school you do not learn solely academic material, but also cultural, there is even mention of a French Culture teacher. The emphasis and importance MBS places on culture, and life outside of the study is evident – both in promoting the French culture of the university’s home country, and the cultures of visiting exchange students.

Leading on from this point, MBS’ EDUopinions comments also tell us of the organised activities for exchange students ‘almost every week’ which must certainly be a great help to students who are away from home and may be in a country unfamiliar to them.

We also see in a comment posted above that there are events held for student integration in general. Universities really are a community, and MBS definitely seems to care a great deal that their community functions well and happily together.

Other MBS positives according to its students include the ‘wide variety’ of programmes of study available, and the school’s facilities, as mentioned by this student and EDUopinions commenter.

Further north in France, Paris School of Business is also not without its merits. The most commonly mentioned appears to be the college’s ‘Campus Cluster’ which, as PSB’s students state, is an ‘incredible platform where you could meet people – be it students or professors – from all over the world’ which ‘facilitates exchanges between students.

Another PSB plus is, like Montpellier Business School, the college’s internationality and diversity on campus. As previously mentioned, at PSB you have the opportunity to make friends with and meet people from anywhere in the world.

PSB students also praise the level of teaching and training they receive there. We have seen above how one student explains that PSB teachers transmit more than just theoretical material – they also delve into practicality, which, as the student claims, is the thing that makes the difference for PSB students when they enter the working world after graduation. If your college can give you such a critical stand out skill from the rest of the crowd then you must acknowledge your college’s role in your own success.

Other complimentary PSB opinions consisted of the option to complete a year abroad in your third year of studies, and the ability to complete two-year work-study masters at the institute.

What PSB Could Improve On

Although it seems unfair to discuss PSB’s downfalls here when, contrastingly, MBS happens to have none mentioned on EDUopinions, we still cannot ignore the PSB students who have commented on where the school needs to improve. One such way is the school’s administration and organisation. Students have found PSB administration to be ‘not very present’ and there to be a ‘problem of communication between pupil and administration.’ Happily, though, one commenter states that the university is ‘actively working’ on it.

Another interesting point brought up on EDUopinions by one PSB student is that in the Grande Ecole part of the business school, in some programmes you agree directly to a master, and this, apparently is not specified in the beginning. It must be said at this point, however, that blame for this may lie equally on both the shoulders of the student and the school – perhaps the student made an assumption, and the university used confusing language. People’s opinions on various matters, especially colleges, are very important, but we cannot rely on absolute trust on a comment like this with only one of its kind. Still, though, it warrants mentioning and may help prospective students to learn something.

Where Does That Leave Us?

If it were to come down to it, the decision in choosing between PSB and MBS may be decided by their locations – the capital or the south of France? Yes, from this article, it looks as if PSB has more negative points than MBS, but both schools have yet only five and four opinions about them respectively on the EDUopinions site. There are still many opinions left to be written. Students, when choosing a university, must be well informed and take this responsibility upon themselves. Always remember what you are looking for personally out of your studies and your experience at college – while one thing may suit someone else, it may not suit you at all. Use all the resources available to make such a decision, just make sure it is, at the end of the day, a decision made for you and you only!
