How My EU Business School Professors Helped Me Find My Path

How my EU Business School Professors Helped me Find my Path

Originally from Switzerland, Dacey is currently studying a Bachelor of Science in Business Finance at EU Business School (EU) where she is also the president of the Student Board. We asked Dacey to share her experience of studying and living in Barcelona.

-Why did you choose   EU Business School   for your studies?

I chose EU Business School because of the diversity it offers. The high percentage of international students was extremely attractive to me as I need a dynamic environment to thrive. My parents are Swiss but I was born the U.S. and grew up in Thailand, so as you might imagine, I’ve always been surrounded by different cultures. During my time at EU Business School, I’ve met so many different people with interesting cultures and traditions and I love that.

-How has your experience of studying   been so far?

The fact that you can learn so much from the professors’ professional experience is very impressive. If you ask them about projects they’ve personally worked on, they always have such interesting stories that you can learn from and apply to your own projects. The small class sizes mean you can interact with them in a way that would not be possible if you were in a classroom with hundreds of students.

When I started at EU, I was enrolled in the Tourism and Leisure Management course, but after speaking to my professors, I decided to switch to Finance as I felt it was a better path for me. I’m currently exploring my options in finance through workshops and discussions with my professors. I am also planning on doing a master’s program before starting my professional career.

-How is it like to study in Barcelona?

Coming from northern Thailand, a bustling city like Barcelona was overwhelming at first, but I’ve learned to navigate the city and explore it with confidence. In the summer, I love going to the beach to play volleyball, having picnics in the park and attending music festivals. I couldn’t have picked a better city to study in. During the colder months, there are still plenty of fun things to do like visit one of Barcelona’s many museums or spend a weekend skiing in Andorra. There are so many different options!

-Do you have any tips for future EU students?

I made the mistake of booking a room in a shared flat through the internet without visiting it in person beforehand. As I’ve been told, pictures lie. I stayed in the apartment for a grand total of two weeks before finding somewhere better. I would discourage anyone from booking accommodation from thousands of miles away without looking at the place first. The best option would be to stay in a hotel when you first arrive in Barcelona and arrange a number of apartment viewings around the city. After seeing them in person, you will be able to make the right decision.

And finally, while EU offers countless opportunities, they won’t just fall into your lap. Make the most of every opportunity you get. For instance, we had to the chance to attend the National Model United Nations in New York and visit the Bloomberg offices in London, as well as attend regular company visits.
