If you’re interested in studying a subject such as AI, engineering, physics, sustainability, or computer science at university, then you’re be studying a STEM subject. STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) is a broad category that encompasses lots of highly-valued degrees and careers, and if you want to study one of these technical, practical subjects, then choosing one of the best universities for STEM study can give you a great head start in the jobs market.
Universities with strong STEM departments can offer you links with top STEM companies, networking with alumni in niche industries, and practical support to find your way in this competitive jobs market. But which are the best universities for STEM study in Europe?
Our ranking isn’t based on top university rankings like QS or Times Higher Education. Instead, we’ve based our top ten list on real student ratings on EDUopinions for universities that offer degrees in subjects like medicine, computer science, and related studies.
We’ve also included business schools in this list. While traditionally not thought of as a STEM subject, as technology has become inseparable from subjects like finance, marketing, and management, many business programmes are now worthy of a STEM label. Today, a standard business degree will cover technical subjects like data analytics, cybersecurity, IT, and more.
Below each university, you can also read student reviews of STEM courses at each institution, so you can get a proper idea of what it’s like to study at each place.
So, here are the best universities for STEM study in Europe.

Student Review – Economics and Management
The 2 years of my Master of Science program have been the experience I sought after my Bachelor’s in India. Bocconi emphasized theoretical and practical ways of learning, which involved collaboration among my course peers and those in other universities and organizations. I feel more prepared to enter the workforce having realised the areas of my interest and following the pursuit of skills that will enhance my career trajectory.
Student Review – cybersecurity and IT governance
I studied Economics, Management and Computer Science for my Bachelors degree, and Cyber Risk Strategy and Governance for my Masters degree. It makes me happy to see an Italian university offering such a wide variety of international programs, ranging in different fields. Bocconi offers opportunities for on-campus activities, networking, and career events. The courses are well structured and the professors equip students with the necessary tools and competencies for entering the job market. The best part of my experience has been meeting so many people coming from diverse backgrounds and cultures. It is an environment for all of us to come together and grow.
Student Review – Aerospace Management
My time at Bocconi University was truly remarkable. Engaging lessons and interactions with diverse, like-minded students made the experience genuinely enjoyable. The university offers an impressive array of courses and programs, along with a supportive staff and comprehensive academic assistance, ensuring no student is left behind.

It also scores very highly for internationality – the university offers programmes in English or Dutch, which attracts students from across Belgium and the Netherlands as well as other areas of Europe.
Student Review – applied computer science
The university program is carefully structured , and updated . The timetable is quite challenging and it requires effort , active learning skills and organization , the teachers are prepared and available for confrontation and discussion. The material provided is complete and exhaustive, the platform provided to follow the courses is clear and provides a relatable infrastructure. The group projects provides a powerful tool to interact with classmate and develop soft skills. The campuses have lots of supplies and are well organized. My final review is positive but the information provided in courses are at times overwhelming, the only way to pass is put a lot of work in the project and attend classes.
Student Review – multimedia technologies
Out of all places I’ve studied at, I felt most comfortable at KdG. Friendly people all around, class mates were fun and profs as well as the rest of stuff constantly try to do better and involve the students as much as possible.
MCT was exactly what I was looking for, if you’re not into exams but prefer a project based approach then this program is for you. I learned a bunch of skills (design, coding, entrepreneurship, project management, communication…) that I still use every day and are super beneficial in just about any work environment.
Student Review – applied computer science
First of all , I would definitely recommend the ACS course at Kdg for it being a very international course where you would meet lots of interesting people and you would make friends for life.
Second of all I love this course because its an applied course which has more hands on skills rather than theoretical skills and math, moreover you work on projects and in ways that real companies work in (scrum).
One thing i dont like about this course is because its a fairly new course from this university is the slides and the study material is not extensive and i would say chaotic which means you would definitely need to use external sources to study.
In conclusion i would definitely recommend the ACS course at Kdg for anyone that is interested in a future in IT

The Global Master’s in Big Data and Business Analytics is a demanding program for professionals. The learning curve is steep and it allows me to gain experience from the excellent peers in the program. In addition, the career prospects are extremely high since employers value studying while working experience. The only negative aspect of the part-time master’s program is that it is difficult to join the IE community with all its amazing events due to the high workload. Overall, I am extremely happy I joined the program and I would definitely recommend it.
Student Review – Big Data Technology
I am an Indian with a technical background. I took up a course in Data Science for my Master’s. The hands-on training for assignments, the skilled professors, and the most supportive management helped me study and enjoy my course. It was a great break from the mundane work environment providing a home-like feel. I used to spend most of my time working on campus. Who will say no to free wifi and a pleasing ambience? The group assignments helped me to anticipate the work culture and created a collaborative environment. At IE, I learned a lot about my strength and weakness.

Student Review – Dentistry
I really like the small groups of 10-12 students. The atmosphere is very friendly and colleguial. We study in English which improves language skills. Also, the structure of the semester is really nice. We finish the summer semester in June, and start with the new winter semester in September. Which means 2 months off for summer break 🙂 We start pre clinic already in year 2 and start to work with patients in year 3. That proves how good the education is, we learn a lot of practical skills.
Student Review – Medicine
The Integrated program itself is unique in comparison to all others with a combined medical degree and master’s in health sciences.
