What Is a Marketing Degree?

A business cannot survive if its products are not marketed in the proper way. Luckily for all the businesses out there, the number of candidates wanting to pursue a marketing career is growing tremendously.

The aim of this degree is to help students anticipate, manage, and satisfy customers’ needs and wants. By doing so, they will be able to effectively communicate the benefits of any business product to the targeted market.

Due to the fact that marketing is a complex industry, which tackles many areas ranging from market research to advertising and promotion, this degree focuses on all parts of the process before concentrating on a particular area of study.

Benefits of a Marketing Degree

Good news for marketing graduates! If you did not know yet, marketing is an essential aspect of all types of businesses, from all sectors of activity. Thus, all of them rely on marketers to promote and sell their products. A high market demand comes with many job opportunities available.

According to Labor Department Findings, graduates with a marketing degree can earn 98% more per hour than the ones working in the industry without having a specialised degree.

Furthermore, students are equipped with transferable skills, such as excellent communication abilities, strategic thinking, planning, data analysis and so on, that can be used in other industries too.

Marketing Degree Structure

Marketing degrees can be studied either as Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc). The major difference lies in the presence of more scientific and technological aspects, which are commonly seen in a BSc rather than a BA.

Like most degrees, marketing courses last between three and four years, depending on the university. However, there are institutions which give students the possibility to do a two-year associate’s degree – also called a ‘foundation’ degree.

Even if graduating from both degrees qualifies candidates to work in this industry, a Bachelor degree has higher chances to lead you to well-paid jobs.

    Review RMIT

I’m majoring in Digital Marketing, so most of the courses offered are work-integrated learning (WIL)-oriented. This has given me valuable experience and practical insights into how to develop complete and effective marketing proposals.

    🌟 Overview
Role: 2nd year Marketing student, RMIT Vietnam
Overall rating: 4/5 – International environment, fast-updating content but high tuition and some subjects still teach blended learning.
    ✅ Things I like
In-depth curriculum: Pathway from foundational subjects (Principles of Marketing, Consumer Behavior) to specialized subjects (Digital Marketing, Brand Management); case studies are always “hot” with Gen AI, TikTok Shop, social listening.
Experienced lecturers: Most of them have worked/are working at agencies or client-side; each workshop has a mini-brief, helping to practice brainstorming similar to an agency environment.
Business connection project: Each semester usually has 1-2 courses working with real brands (I once made a proposal for Unilever and received direct feedback from the brand manager).
Multicultural environment: About 40% of students are exchange students; cross-cultural teamwork trains excellent intercultural communication skills.

    – an environment that nurtures self-growth
    – advantage: facilities, canteen
    – disadvantages: overcrowded due to exceeding intake
    – i would recommend the RMIT student app should be upgraded to offer campus navigation, alerts, room bookings, and facility issue reporting.

    What to learn, what's special?

Digital Marketing at RMIT – is it worth studying?

If you are interested in Digital Marketing at RMIT, I used to study and have some practical sharing for you to consider:

    ✨ Big plus:

Learning by doing: Almost every subject has a real-world project – from creating a marketing plan, running sample ads, to analyzing user data. No dry theory.
Quality lecturers: Most have practical experience working in the industry, many have worked at agencies or big brands.
Studying entirely in English, language skills and international thinking also improve very quickly.
High networking opportunities: During the course, many subjects have guests from famous marketing companies come to share, opening up internship and future job opportunities.
    😕 Points to consider:

High pressure of deadlines: Because it is mainly about group projects, teamwork and time management skills are very important. Just “cramming for theoretical points” is not enough.
Don’t teach too much technical stuff: Those who want to learn more about running ads, technical SEO, and in-depth data analysis will have to self-study or take an external course.
Tuition fees are quite high compared to the general level of universities in Vietnam.
    💡 Summary:
If you want to pursue a career in marketing strategy, branding, content, campaign management, RMIT is a good choice because of its comprehensive training in thinking, soft skills, and a very modern learning environment. But if you are more inclined towards performance marketing (running ads, SEO, Google Analytics, etc.), you should study other specialized courses outside of school.
