As a Rohingya refugee living in a camp in Bangladesh, getting access to quality higher education was once a distant dream. University of the People changed that for me. The university’s tuition-free, online education model makes it accessible to students from all walks of life, including those in the most marginalized communities.
I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Computer Science, and my experience so far has been empowering. The classes are well-structured, and the instructors are supportive and responsive. The peer-to-peer learning system encourages engagement and collaboration, even in a virtual environment.
What I appreciate most is the flexibility it offers—I can study while working part-time as a teacher and preparing for the IELTS exam. Despite living in a refugee camp with limited internet access, I’ve been able to continue my education and dream bigger.
Of course, the challenges are real—especially technical issues or limited live interactions—but the university’s mission, affordability, and global community of learners make it all worthwhile.
I would highly recommend UoPeople to anyone who believes education should be a right, not a privilege. It’s more than a university—it’s a lifeline.
