My four years at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass Amherst) were some of the best of my life. The facilities of the campus were unparalleled – from brand-new student housing and gym facilities, literally award-winning dining hall options, great sports teams, and lots of culture (concerts, plays, etc). The area surrounding the campus (Amherst and the greater Pioneer Valley) was also super lovely – comprised of mountains, farmlands, and beautiful forests.
The UMass faculty were extremely accomplished, and accessible – if I ever wanted to join a project or discuss my career direction, their doors were always open. Choice of student clubs were endless, as were study abroad options, and work-study jobs.
The only area of improvement was my specific program itself. At the time, the undergraduate public health program was in it’s pilot, and I would have benefitted from more in-depth career counseling and hands-on opportunities. Saying this – the program was extremely interesting and and the administration and professors were very eager to support us, and integrate our feedback. I’ve heard that now, 8 years since my graduation, the program is flourishing and very popular.
I highly highly recommend UMass Amherst!
