Looking back almost ten years since I graduated, I cannot think of a better time in my life than at Texas State University. The moment you drive into San Marcos, you are instantly greeted by a glass-like river that is open at your disposal to swim in daily thanks to the crazy Texas weather, greenery all around, and life in the great Hill Country. Texas State offered me more than an education; it offered me a place to be myself, friends that I am still as close to today as then, and a place to find myself.
One of the most diverse campuses in Texas, you will meet anyone from your hometown to other countries, to different races, different backgrounds…the list goes on.
The main thing that drew me to Texas State also was its affordability. In a time where college is almost, if not, unaffordable, life in San Marcos was not. Classes were relatively cheaper than other major universities in Texas and the rent in San Marcos was too.
The professors were some of the best you’ll find around. Most were natives of the area receiving their PhD’s from Texas and moving South for a relaxed life living in a beautiful city.
One professor stand out and that was Tom Grimes. If you have the chance to spend 5 minutes talking with him, you will have received a gift that nothing of monetary value can replicate. It’s not just him, it was most professors. They were normal and understanding people.
All in all, if you have a chance to get to San Marcos, do it! I regret nothing about my time there.
