Established in 1829, Rochester Athenaeum was a literary society, which merged in 1891 with the Mechanics Institute, an institute of practical technical training, which was founded 6 years before. The name of this new institution was Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute.Show more
Some years later, in 1944, the school was renamed Rochester Institute of Technology, and it officially became a research university. The original campus was located in Rochester, New York, by the Erie Canal. However, in 1959 the New York Department of Public Works announced that a freeway was going to be built there. Therefore, the university bought a new campus in the east bank of the Genevese River, in Henrietta in 1961, and officially moved there in 1968, where it resides today.
In 1966 the university was named the site of the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, and its first students enrolled in 1968. In the following decade, the institution took over Eisenhower College and in 1990 the college started its first Ph.D. programme in Imaging Science.

R.I.T. (Rochester Institute of Technology) is the top university in my country, and its degree is recognized practically anywhere in the globe; these are just a few of the reasons why I chose this university. At R.I.T., the classes and professors are excellent, and you have numerous possibilities for your major study. We also have a large number of international students on campus, and students can request a dormitory if they so desire. R.I.T is something I would recommend to any student who is still undecided.
