The passion for technology can lead you to choose the specialisation of Computer Science. This field has become increasingly popular in recent years, the development being so rapid that people are trying to keep up with it.
A Computer Science degree deals with the theoretical and practical foundations of information technology and computers. The scientific part merges with the practical one in various algorithms, information processing or in computational models. This specialisation often aims to study methodological processes, making representations on a computer, storage, or accessing information.
At the same time, the study of Computer Science focuses on the learning of programming languages, which are extremely important for any student. Python, C ++, Java are just a few of the programming languages that are explored in depth by students in order to solve the applications received from the faculty. Furthermore, on the labour market, programming languages are highly appreciated and integrated, being a useful tool for optimal performance of industries.
The most important skill that young people learn following this degree is the use of programming languages. Once they grasp the logic of programming, they will easily be able to master the languages and build or develop WEB applications. Additional skills that are acquired can be: network design and engineering, software engineering, multimedia design. In addition, classical skills such as teamwork, leadership, problem-solving or time management are also gained by students.
According to recent studies, 6 of the 10 best jobs chosen by graduates are linked to Computer Science. These include Web Design, Computer Support Specialist, IT Operations Technician or Database Administrator. Moreover, the employment rate is favourable to the students, being over 70%. Due to the rapid advancement of technology, it is expected that the supply will grow in the future, requiring computer science specialists in any field.
To study Computer Science, students can either pursue university courses or follow courses online, depending on their availability and income. Online or outside-university courses include disciplines such as: Information Systems Management, Game Programming, Web Development, Network Fundamentals. They usually have a duration of 2 years. Although these courses provide important skills in this specialisation, students may be disadvantaged when competing with a student who has a Bachelor’s Degree. Some of the most important campuses in the world include Penn State World Campus, University of Massachusetts, Lowell (The Division of Online Learning and Continuing Education), Saint Leo University.
The Bachelor in Computer Science lasts around 3 to 4 years, depending on the university. Throughout the programme, students acquire mathematical knowledge, theoretical and practical foundation in programming. Some of the subjects discussed are: Computer Programming, Data Structures, Databases, Algorithms, Linear Algebra, Probability Theory or Statistics. These vary according to the curriculum of the university.
A Master’s program complete the students’ necessary career skills. In this way, they have a greater understanding of computing softwares, tools, packages, and computer architecture.
There are Master programs that can be followed even by those who have not undertaken undergraduate studies in Computer Science, such as those offered at the University of Birmingham for example. These programs can take either 2 to 5 years.
A PhD program is especially dedicated to those who want to research or become university professors and can last between 4 to 5 years.
My overall assessment of my program at the University of the People reflects a profound sense of satisfaction. The institution distinguishes itself through its dedication to delivering a contemporary and high-caliber educational experience, manifested in its meticulously designed study resources, efficacious pedagogical approaches, and adaptable academic calendar. The readily accessible live support channels, coupled with the dynamic Viva Engage platform that fosters global interaction among the University’s diverse student body, significantly enriches the learning environment. Crucially, the University’s commitment to providing generous scholarship opportunities has been pivotal in mitigating financial obstacles, thereby enabling the uninterrupted pursuit of a rigorous and enriching educational journey.
View moreUniversity of the People is a flexible, online high education platform that is dedicated to give globally accepted education. I am enjoying my study in this University. The tutors and academic advisors are always working together to make sure students have the best study experience. I have learnt a lot of skills during my computer science degree, and I am still learning. I also like the availability of free online education and research materials for our online courses. I advise to this great institution is to continue the good work
View more😊 UoPeople’s been a wild ride! 🌟 Super flexible schedule, dope global community, and the staff’s always got your back 🙌. Learned heaps, not just academically but life too. The online vibe took some getting used to, but the forums and peer reviews make it feel connected 💻.

View moreThe University of the People is regionally accredited, like any other university, and provides high quality education in computer science and other subjects, but is affordable. Students are not rejected because they can’t pay six figures for a bachelor’s degree. The school takes pride in making sure that people are not excluded from education due to their location in the world either, and strives to ensure access to people who would otherwise be completely denied an education. In Canada, even, there was no way I could ever afford to get my BSc in computer science, and it didn’t matter how strong my grades were. All that mattered in Canada was whether I was already rich or not (I was not) until I found UoPeople. Since graduating in 2019, I’ve qualified for far more STEM jobs that require a degree than I ever could have, and I will always be grateful to this one-of-a-kind school. If you don’t think you can get an education because you are marginalized in any way, or just don’t want to accumulate massive debt (your country regards education as a business where nothing matters but profit), you should definitely have a look. The programs are great. Even with the incredibly low cost, there are scholarships too.
View moreMy experience at University of the People has been truly inspiring and motivating. The tuition-free WASC-accredited CS program empowers students worldwide to achieve ambitious career goals through flexible online learning. Global peers and dedicated professors create a supportive environment where I maintained a 3.67 GPA. UoPeople proves quality education transcends borders highly life changing!
View moreAs a student at University of the People, my journey has been incredibly rewarding. What stands out most is the flexibility; being able to manage my coursework around my personal schedule has been a game-changer.
The peer-assessment model is a unique aspect of UoPeople that has helped me develop critical thinking and constructive feedback skills. While it can be challenging at times, it creates a diverse learning environment where I can connect with students from all over the world.
The support from instructors and the community is strong, and the tuition-free model makes quality higher education truly accessible. If you are a self-motivated learner looking for an affordable way to earn a degree, I highly recommend UoPeople.
View moreUoPeople’s tuition-free model with only low assessment fees is repeatedly praised as life-changing, especially for students who couldn’t otherwise afford a university degree.
• Students often highlight that the fully online, asynchronous format allows them to study around work, family, and other commitments.

I love how this university is affordable for the same learning quality offered elsewhere. Courses are very well structured i love learning at my own pace wether choosing two courses in a term i feel busy or 4 classes when i feel i can handle more load.
I have and will recommend it to everyone i know.
