“I can literally do whatever I want with my life”. The array of opportunities Duke offers has made this quote a constant feeling throughout my first year at this university. I am certain it will continue to be this way as I move further with my career.
The support is awesome and from day one, I was surprised by how easy it is to reach out to professors, advisors and counselors. It makes a huge difference to study in a place where you know those around you want to help you succeed.
While it is true that Duke has a very competitive atmosphere which sometimes impacts access to clubs, research or internships (specially in the areas of finance and consulting) other less popular careers have programs that are easier to get into and that are awesome ways to figure out what to do after uni.
I do have to say that arriving to this university was a huge cultural shock as an international student, but I am certain that is the case with other institutions in the US. Sometimes life at Duke feels like a bubble and so many people enjoy that, but it can get a bit tricky to leave campus.
